Just bought a T25 and a Transit straight-through intercooler for Ԛ£50.

Finally got the spare iS home and started stripping the engine bay ready to pull the block.

Hopefully the tubby will arrive before I haul the engine out, so I can look at flipping the tubular manifold and see how far out I'd be if I customise that, or make an adaptor piece.

More updates soon.

Very interested in this turbo conversion. Over on E30tech some body was saying that M42 run with forged pistons as stock?? Would love to know if this true or not???

If so, and the crowns are thick enough, it would be very easy to dish them a bit on the lathe and have some very cost effective turbo pistons. winkeye

The crank is also forged from the factory

So what you are saying is the pistons are forged???

Has any one got a spare M42 piston lying around that they could photo / measure up?

pistons are normal bmw cast pistons.

omi, about time too! am glad its finally beginning to happen for you! you decided what pistons you're gonna run? still thinking JE? What CR you going for? what made you settle on the T25 in the end? T25 is the 200sx turbo yeah? i think the m42's screaming out to be turbo'd, if mine wasn't a daily (and i had better fabricating skills!) i'd have been on to it a long time ago!

Rowdy, forged crank, forged rods, cast pistons... I'm going for JE forged pistons at 8:1 compression ratio... Ԛ£470 from the states I believe.

1 engine rebuild and new timing chains later she'll be ready to boost.

Tim, I settled on the T25 based on good advice from our resident turbo-meister, Ant! - That's partially true... The fact that T25s are available for Ԛ£50 any day of the week was a big contributor!

I've got an Irish tuner currently sourcing me the bits for a T25 hybrid or T28 spool-monster, but for after I've got the rest done.

Ant, if I pull the mouse out it's rubber-band, how would I get it to you? :) I think I'll build up the turbo and run 1bar into my engine compartment while I drive it down. - Bit worried about the heat at this point. - Not sure where it's all gonna go. - Ant, how did you stop yours melting the loom? :S
...or is it?

A friend of mine did a turbo conversion on his 318is a few years ago, used a Cosworth T3 I gave him, through a Cossie intercooler, and I wired up the Motec M4. He was running about 1.3 bar last time I saw it, and it goes really well. Over 300hp from memory, he fitted JE forged pistons, at 8.5:1. Pretty sure the crank was cast though.
