Hi guys,
It was suggested to me that i consider making the plenum for my throttle bodies out of fibreglass instead of aluminium. This sounded like a pretty good idea to me, because it would look much better than an alloy one as it'd be curvy and wouldn't have welds everywhere etc. if i found my skills were getting any good, i could even try a carbon fibre skin/overlay to make it look even better. I do have loads of questions though. Most important one is, is fibreglass up to the job? Will it be sufficiently strong? I also am not experienced with working with fibreglass and don't know the best approach to this. so far, my thoughts are - make a mould out of some sort of foam (any suggestions appreciated!), cover in releasing agent, then cover in resin and add some fibreglass matting, cut in half???? (to get the fibreglass shell out and add throttle bodies etc), then reassemble and add several layers of fibreglass.
Have found this place for supplies:
http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/index.html
am not sure what type of fibreglass matting and resin would be best to use, and am not sure how to finish the plenum either. not sure what additional tools i'll need too. What rollers work well etc? i know this is hardly the place, but good info is hard to find! any info greatly appreciated!
Cheers
tim

if you are going to make a mould you may as well make a carbon fibre plenum instead of fibreglass.if you make the mould i can make the carbon for you no problem although the mould has to be very good if you want a decent finish.you will have to make a top and bottom half with a lip on both to bolt together for accessability
