quick 2.7 stroker job ?

Hello.

I admit I didnt read much about those stroking m20, but some parts are avialable at my local wreckers.

I got 325i current.

there's a sholw 325 eta engine on the wrecker yard.

Now, for the stroker conversion do I need only? :
1. eta crank
2. eta rods (are 'i' rods better?)
3. eta pictons

do I need:
4: brand new crank bearings that i'd have to buy ?
5: any other brand new thing I need ?


is it possible to do the job without removing the head ???
basically I'm thinking:

1. raise car on axle stands,
2. remove front steering rack
3. remove gearbox
4. remove oil sump
can I undo the crank at this stage ??? or are there any other major components that need removed ?

replace crank with eta one and reasemble. I have megasquirt to tune it :)

or am I just day dreaming it will be that easy ?

I'd like to aviod buying whole new engine because i dont have place to store it. Current engine hear WILL be rebuild at some stage this year, but I'm not happy to do it just yet.

The short answer is that it's a bigger job than that, and I've got to go to a meeting now, so do a search for "2.7".

don't know the specifics of this particular conversion, but if you insist on maintaining your existing bottom end, but changing pistons, rods, crank, you'll really need the head off to get the pistons in for a start, and all the front timing gear off to get the crank out. you'd prob need new mains and big end shells, new rings etc. too. you really would have to have the head off and bench build the engine ideally. dunno whether you can just use the whole eta bottom end though, im not up to speed on m20 conversions.

First what head do you want to use? 320,325 or eta?

The 325 head will need the use of 325 pistons and machining of the block and adjustable cam pulley.

320 or eta headwill fit straight on the eta bottom end. Also the eta will need modifications (drilling the oil feeds for bearings) before you can fit the 325 cam which will be needed whichever head is use.

So if you want a quick fix and the eta engine is a good runner, you can just pop on the 320 head on the eta block. No bearings will be needed.

As for other parts you may need, well that's totally upto you. I replaced almost everything that I could. The oil pump would be a good start.

BTW do forget to use the 325 sump pan!
