2.3 Ecoboost Swap - Advice and Thoughts?
Moderator: martauto
Hello. Bit of a brainstorm here. The thought is to steal the powertrain from a 2.3 Ecoboost Mustang and drop it into an E30. The weight of the engine is low and the power stats stock are plenty high. I think this would be a good choice as the new engine would remain stock and (theoretically) reliable while doubling the stock power. I have seen another thread about a 2.0l Ford engine swap but nothing with the ecoboost. Has anyone seen or tried anything like this? One obvious problem is that all the newer ecoboost vehicles utilize electric assist steering so the engine has no pump or mounting to accommodate such. Other problems with fitment I'm not sure of so I'm asking for thoughts on that as well (obviously it will fit, more on the ease or difficulty of mounting). Thanks in advance for any ideas, thoughts and advice.
There are so many BMW engines to swap that I don't think you will find many swapping a similar engine non-BMW unless it is for a specific reason (like the Dragon rotary). Some good light turbo engines from BMW already been swapped so less guesswork.
If you are going to do something different then you just have to find one and take a tape measure to make lots of measurements.
Anything can be done or made with enough time, effort and money. I think the PAS pump would be least of your worries if you did this.
