Rover V8 into M40 318i
Moderator: martauto
Looking to do this swap, will be a non EFI V8 and it'l probably be running holley carbs or similar! Does anyone know if there is a kit to buy to fit this in (engine mounts, bellhousing etc). Also what would the the best gearbox to use??? Doubt a standard bm box would last!!

Think a zoner has done this conversion before, is it Kos?
Sure I've seen pics of one with throttle bodies on it
I would have thought you are gonna be into Type 9 'box or maybe a T5 from a Cossie. The getrag is a sturdy old beast good for 300bhp i reckon, turbo lads on here are having no probs with standard drivetrain. Beemer box has fixed bellhousing though

Hmm, nice swop option
I think I'd use the Rover eng and box, and use the front half of the rover prop with a BMW rear section added, got to be the easiest option , sherpa gearboxes fit too I'm told
As for the carb option, you'll need to change the fuel pump from the EFI type to a pusher facet or similar, there are no regs that can reduce 5 bar (ish) down to the 5psi or so required by the carb
other options are use the bell adapter for a sierra box, adds to the costs though
how about a small block chevy swop ? same work , better result similar costs using used parts

Shit loads more torque than any E30 engine though mate. besides, the BM box will not mate to the V8 Engine apparently anyway.pete1979 wrote:a bm box is more than strong enough v8 only has 150 bhp

A guy called Wayne is the man to talk to.. He uses the BMW owners forum I beleive.
He owns the orange LS1 powered M3. The engine previously in there was a Rover V8 on throttle bodies (the one from the Picture?). He recently threw away the mounts and said I could have had them if he hadn't! Typical.
Good luck. - Should be a nice conversion as the engine is very light. Don't expect huge power though. The Rover V8 is good but hard to get big numbers out of.
