318S/4 - EASYEST ENGINE UPGRADE

Hi, i own a 1998 318s, E36 complete with a M44 1895cc engine. Am
looking to upgrade this to a larger engine. Are there any engines that
will 'slot' straight in with no other major upgrades? Have considered
chipping but have been advised there would be no major benefit
to this engine, this true? PLEEASE HELP!..........Cheers

I know our mans on the zone, but we're as well placed to answer his question as anyone.

M44 can be tuned quite well, 106 degrees on the intake and a rechip should net a nice increase, pipe is worthless as is any intake other than stock.

for swop options, anything from a donor e36 is possible, but I'd advise selling and getting a '30, old skool kool baby
