Engine Without ECU - Worth Buying

Hi

Tried to search on this but couldn't find anything, so thought I'd ask.

Is it worth buying an M52B28 without an ECU? Seller states he has most of the loom and the EWS, but not the ECU. Engine is a good price and worth a punt as local, even though I haven't heard it running. Is it simply a case of getting a complete new ECU, loom and EWS?

if you have seen ecu etc for the same engine up for sale then yes

personally I like to buy running cars - can drive the car about a bit - check you are happy

then strip and sell the bits you dont want then fit the working engine!
