I'm intrested in dropping the 2.5L engine from a 325 into my 318i auto. I've done a search, but not found much that answers my questions, which are:
1. I want to keep the car an auto, so would the 2.5 bolt to the 318 auto gearbox?
2. If it's not the same autobox, is the propshaft/diff the same, or would I need to change them too?
3. Is changing the engine loom over for the 2.5 a hard job?
4. Anthing that needs adding to this list:
Engine
Gearbox (if it's not the same)
Propshaft (if it's not the same)
Diff (if it's not the same)
Engine wiring loom
ECU
Exhaust
2.5 AFM
5. No doubt it would be quicker was easier to buy a rusty/pranged 325 auto and use it for all the parts.
Thanks in advance.

It would actually be a lot easy and smarter to buy a 325 and bin your 318. The front suspension and brakes are different, rear suspension and brakes are different , diff etc etc. You will definately buy a tidy 325 auto for less than this pointless task will cost you. If you are a really sick masochist and must do this conversion make your toil a little easier and buy another running car .
