Right, it keeps going around that people want to do this and people want to do that!! In your honest opinion, what do you think the following engine conversion's cost total???

You hve an E30 and you want to put in a:-

2.5 = Ԛ£????
2.7 = Ԛ£????
2.5turbo = Ԛ£????
3.5 = Ԛ£????
3.5turbo = Ԛ£????
E30 m3 = Ԛ£????
E36 2.8 = Ԛ£????
E36 m3 = Ԛ£????
E36 m3 3.2 = Ԛ£????
M5 3.6 or 3.8 = Ԛ£????

Maybe the people that have done this work could help with the answer's, which in turn would help other's to decide what conversion to go for!!
If they wish to do so!! :D

Please feel free to add any conversion I have missed!!

Thats my plan Dan!!

all depends how you do it and who does what on it!!
Just a basic price, cheap as if you do it yourself and find parts cheap!! Only has to be ballpark figures!!

you can't give a ball park figure

my 335 cost a grand, but that included buying the e30 and putting a tech2 kit, sports interior, dechrome and everything else on it.

if you got a garage to do the lot you could easily spend 4-5k on the same thing, if you did it properly i.e. rebuilt the engine, used all new mounts, parts etc etc, which isn't an unreasonable thing to do if you want the car to last. there's a LOT of small bits and pieces to buy, and the difference between scouring breakers and taking one trip to a dealer for the lot is massive.

so as Dan says, it depends how you do it.

well mines at the bmw specialist having a 325i lump
dropped in to make it a bit more beefier than the 316i
before and i paid in total with extra bits i needed about Ԛ£275
for the engine and ive paid him Ԛ£650 to drop it in.

i would have thought a specialist would have been more expensive
but its the cheapest i could find,most other garages just turned
up their noses and said "na mate ya lookin at thousands there
cos of the wiring loom etc"

so i have paid a lot but im also not very clued up at all about
engines so dint realy have much choice!

plus its taken ages to do cos he's had other jobs :cry:

Hmm not quite i think, but i'm sure you know that.

Back to the original post, never gonna happen to be quite honest, way to many variables, second hand or new parts, can you fabricate, can you weld, what can't you do, what can you do, is it on a budget or not.

Don't think you'll find anyone will be able to give you any definate answers to be honest.

Couldn't everyone who's done one of these conversions just quote his original post and next to their engine put how much it cost them. That way he/we would have a ball park figure of what it would cost. Or have I missed something.

if you spend 5 grand it might be bang job done if you're lucky

doing it for 1 grand will take you a lot of time and effort and you'll be replacing a fair few bits along the way :wink:

is your exclamation-mark key stuck?! :squint:

Or roughly how much it should cost, just so I have a good idea. I think the 3.5 would be the easy way and probs the cheapest way!
