The 731 head I used was from a motronic 320i so as long as these are the same then yes it will work.

It's certainly a massive improvement over the 320i's original lump.

My car is running the standard 320i fuelling etc still so it's not going to perform as well as it should. I will be fitting AFM/TB/Injectors from a 325i and a zone 2.7 chip when finanaces are better.

At the moment it will do 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, it will hit the rev limiter in 5th and the fuel consumption has improved slightly due to the engine not having to be worked so hard.

Heres a link to a video I shot a couple of weeks ago:

http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/e30/videos/0260.wmv

The most noticable improvement is torque, the car is so much easier to drive but still pulls happily at higher revs.

Respect is needed in the wet though, I've had a few brown trouser moments so far.

It does feel quite quick, that video was shot with loads of tools in the boot plus a load of ICE.

The diff is the standard 4.11:1 small case, although its starting to moan a bit, but I think thats down to the milage as I don't abuse it with donuts etc (much )

As for user names and passwords, there shouldn't be any as It's on my webspace thats open to all. Try right clicking the filename and 'save as'

TBH due to it still running 320i ECU etc it goes a bit flat over about 5500rpm, I will post another PROPER video when I've sorted all that out. Plus I'll get someone else to hold the camera

I saw a 318 turbo automatic video a while back where the econometer dropped all the way to the right when booting it

so if you get a 525 eta, you can bolt a 320 head straight on? no need to change pistons/etc?

cheap torque monster 2.7 built, in short.....

Eta complete bottom end
320i head and cam(731 casting not 200)
325i intake,TB,AFM and injectors
3.0 Bar fuel reg
2.0/2.5 flywheel

you must swop the pilot bearing over, the eta cranks dont have one as std( being auto )

The above should give approx 190lbs/ft everywhere and about the same peak HP too

best conversion for the M20B20 runners, its a bolt in 70 bhp almost !

the eta head and the 320 are the same unless you port the head and use biger valves and the other problem is the intake manifold and the throtle body which dont give the power you need

Nikos..

So what your saying is, the 320 head is the same number as the eta? Do you have to port the head and bigger valves?? I have a 325 atm.. so most of the ancillaries will com efrom there.

i dont think it is the same.. otherwise surely the eta would produce 190bhp...

the eta was restricted because it used the 320 head and manifold although the capacity was 2.7. When you do the conversion you actualy use the eta block but with the 325 pistons and the 325 head and manifold.
The pistons work with the eta conrods. On earlier 325 you have to skim the lower part of the pistons On models later than 1988 you dont have.

budget build is eta bottom end, 320i head, 325i inlet/loom/ecu

supposedly good for 190bhp..

cam maybe..

The ETA as far as I know has a 200 head casting, with only 4 journals for the cam (less drag) and a suitable cam for the 4.5k rpm limit, white injectors and limited at about 4.5k rpm. Loads of torque but no revs (not as we know it anyway)

Sticking the 320i head on gives a vast improvment with regards the camshaft, I think the valves are the same size as the ETA.

Unless your going for out and out power whilst keeping it M20 then the cheap option is a good one, the last 30bhp of 210 is expensive to find.

Just my 2p worth

the first conversion I did, was the cam the chip and a filter on a plain 325. I didn t use springs with the cam. The engine reved nicely and I kept in pace with the s3 audi being a litle slower. I believe this is the best modification and worths every penny. If you want to go faster you add a shorter dif. and thats all. It is correct that the last 20 horses you pay them like arabian. Although now I have an extremely fast 2.7 If I knew the cost I would go for the e36 m3
