Hey everyone, Iv got hold of an 02 plate E36 325ti compact and was wondering how much trouble it would be swapping it into my old e30? has anyone used one of these engines for a conversion before? any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would guess that engine will be the M52 B25TU with double vanos. It can be done, but a monumental ball ache due to massive wiring complexity

The compact is a write off it was hit up the arse, got it very cheap on the off chance i could use the engine because its only covered 51,000 miles. do you guys think it would be a total nightmare to fit?

Physically fitting the engine isn't too much of a nightmare, with the right sump etc it will drop straight onto the E30 subframe/mounts.
it is the wiring which is the nightmare, I believe the electronics associated with your engine will run the CANBUS system, which means the ECU wants to see signals from sensors all over the car, which is where the average DIY mechanic would be way out of his depth.
