4.0 v8 into an e30 using a 740 auto donor car
would a manual gearbox be a simple swap and what boxes would fit?, would it have to be a manual box from a 740 or 540 ?

A v8 isn't a simple swap.
740=no manuals
540=some manuals
730+530 had manuals but is a different box and uses a weaker clutch. No other box will work.

If you doing the v8, get a complete 5er manual is easier,
The 540 Manual uses a 6 speed box and the 530 manual a 5 speed box, some say the 6 speed is like toffee.
But if you use a 5 speed box just get an uprated clutch, Mines for motorsport so I have used a Helix clutch.
Also the 6 speed box is bigger too
