So i had a e36 touring, with a knackered M52 single vanos 2.8 engine, the car is being broken and im lumbered with a big ol lump of shite..
Also have a E30 touring which i have recently put a M50 2.5 non vanos into, now headgasket gone due to engine sitting with no antifreeze over the winter and it is blowing combustion into the coolant so i am getting huge huge airlocks.
The M50 being an early one, out of a 1990 E34 525, is a iron block (correct me if im wrong)
Anyhow, i have been told that you can put the M52 crank and rods/pistons?? into a M50 non vanos, therefore making my 2.5 a 2.8?
Im not sure on engine power gains or anything like that, but I am going to be fully rebuilding the engine so i may aswell chuck it in if it works and see what we come out with
So the three questions,
can it be done
what gains are there
would i use the 2.8 or 2.5 pistons?
Thanks
Phill

The blocks are the same height so use crank, pistons and rods from the 2.8.
Gains, more bottom end and more high end.

Fantastic, as regards to the compression....
The M50 non vanos 2.5 what is its cr and what is the cr of the M52 2.8 single vanos, nikasil i believe,
can the m50 pistons be used and would the increase, decrease or neither effect the cr??
Thanks!
