So with my friend Rob, from Raw Motorsport, he prepares and races E30s in the PBMW Championship (currently first on the table i think!) but also does many anything works on veichles, we decieded to use the M50 24v out of my old 5 series drifter.
So all in all the parts were
1 x E34 525 Manual - the sumps the right way round!
1 x E30 318 Manual - managed to get a Mint touring with no s/f and 51mm struts
E28 528 Engine Mounts
E36 Engine Arms
M20 Clutch
M20 Flywheel
M20 Starter Motor
E30 318is prop shaft
E30 Solid Steering Coupling
E36 323 Manifolds
Golf Mk1 Brake servo
We used the original 318 gearbox which mounts directly up to the M50 engine with a M20 clutch and flywheel between, a 318is propshaft and the original 4.1 diff which has now been welded. The car is for drifting so the shorter ratios suit my needs well, although its not as bad as some might think, 80mph is at 3.5k.
The flywheel was also lightened and I would have never thought i would notice such a difference, my E36 325 daily feels fat and old now!
For the wiring, Rob stats that all you need is two wiring diagrams for each cars and simply join the wires!
As for the manifolds, we used the 323 tubalar stylee ones, I dont think we even had to notch them after using the solid steering coupling. The rest of the system that i used was a Ashley Race System, used on the PBMW cup cars.
The powersteering resevior was relocated and the viscous ditched for a electric fan.
Other then a few little tidy up details i think were pretty much there with what we had to do and what was needed!
Pictures will follow, just waiting on photobucket
Next up is a 5 stud conversion as for me the avalabitly of suspension and brakes makes sense, but also the geometry is more suited for drifting and easier to achieve!
As to say that car goes so well, it really pulls from anyspeed and given the ease of the conversion I would do it everyday! o and the 24v rasp is awesome!
Hope this helps anyone looking to do a conversion, or give Rob a call at his company
