Car wiring loom - Are all cabby wiring looms the same, i.e. 318 same as 320/325? If i put the M30 Turbo in a 318 shell, will i have to upgrade any wiring?

If the wiring loom is different, how hard or easy is it to change it to a 320/325 loom? Would everything have to be stripped out?

Diff fitment - Is there any modification to be done to fit a large case diff (2.93 LSD) or is it a straight bolt on job? Will it fit straight on a 318 shell?

Are there any other differences between a 318 cab shell and say a 320/325 cab shell?

Sorry if the questions sound straight forward but it's really for my mechanic (also helps with my knowledge) as he's never done a E30 engine conversion before so any help is welcome.

TIA

If the 2.93LSD is off an e28 then you'll have to change the backplate and output flanges for larger case e30 items :)

It may be wise to reinforce the differential hanger, if you have a heavy right foot.

This is the weak point on the driveline and 20 years of road salt won't help.

Standard 325i's being drifted have been known to pull the hanger of the shell.

For the sake of a couple of hours fab work it gives piece of mind.

I went way over the top in mine. It should be safe for away more than the 400ft/Ibs the Saab lump produces.

Basicly I fitted an e36 diff back plate, cut the standard e30 hanger off and welded twin pick up points for the e36 diff. Then I fabricated the cross brace to pick up through the floor (which I double skinned) to the pick up points.

If I can find some pics I'll put them up, but there should be a CAD drawing on my build thread.

I think turbobrown did a more simple design which used a machined bracket which bolted to the diff back plate and then bolted through the cross member on the opposite side to the pick up point.

I think buy the sound of this is the same idea as what has been done to these Z3M diff hangers on this thread
