Hi,

do i gain something on m20b20 if i:
1. Fit the 2.5 throttle body
2. Fit the 2.4td filter cartridge, because its much bigger and lets the engine "breathe" more.
3. Buy and fit the mild chip.
I have all these part laying around(except chip)
And also dont want 2.5 :)

Thanks

Hi 34

to do most of the mods you have listed your car will have to me a facelift with monotronic ecu

if so you can fit a throttle body from a 325i from what ive read ( use the search) you keep the b20 inlet and just attach the throttle body, all thats needed is a gasket and dremel - i think theres a wikpedia page on this ???

a bigger cartridge might work but i doubt it i would just put a kan panel instead

Thanks!
Found the wiki article about throttle body conversion :)
Yes the car has motronic, but I´m afraid that the kn panel filter will only hold fly´s out and diesels air filter is two and half size bigger than petrols, will it help the engine to "breathe" more? Has enyone done it? And will the car run smooth with TB conversion and "mild" chip?

Yes, the M20B20, being an inherently smooth engine to begin with, will run fine with a Mild chip and TB conversion.

I'd imagine that the larger diesel air filter may well aid breathing, but will of course cost significantly more to replace the elements. K&N panel filters aren't so bad - they will certainly keep out more than just flies, which is why alot of autocrossers use them (since they are washable, and allegedly good for a million miles). I fitted one to a 1988 325iSE and was happy with its performance - it certainly didn't seem to detract from standard.

Yes, maybe the K&N panel aren´t so bad, but heard bad things about the other type, what are these called? That round ones? But i´am going to give the diesel air filter a go, cause it´s easy do to and have necessary things laying around anyway, with still decent MANN filter. Only thing to do is customize a little bit the rubber boot, from cartridge to air flow meter and TB.
If to be honest, i´am afraid that the effect with Diesel parts will be negative to performence :? But still give it a go :D
Will notify when the thing is done. :) Cylinder head rebuild at the moment.

Thanks for replays! And sorry if theres any typos or grammatical incorrections, English is my secondary language, and i only average it.

Cheers!

The other type air filter is the Cone type, notoriously known to be detrimental (bad) for power as most people fit them such that they draw in hot air, though they can be OK if thermally housed in a cool air feed, separate from the engine heat soak.

The diesel air filter conversion sounds quite promising, though I'm sure the cylinder head rebuild will ultimately give more performance, at least in your mind, psychologically!

BTW, your English is pretty good, certainly understandable to me :)
