Hello mates , i am recently installing a M30B35 in my e30 320i/1991 , what is the best suspention solution for the new engine , springs and shocks ?
I am thinking about H&R springs on 35mm, but the shocks i dont know ?
I have now H&R 60/40 mm on my car , do you think it will work with it , only to change the shocks?

you may struggle with a 60mm drop at the front, it will be nearer 70mm with the M30 fitted.
uprated shocks are a must imo.

i'm running Leda coilovers with 500lb springs up front on mine as i had problems getting a set of well matched springs and shocks for a touring with a heavy nose.

Leda coilovers - I noticed you mentioned you had those Gareth - must have been costly. did you try the Alpina solution of E30 M3 (with air con) front springs?
(Assuming I got my facts right here.)

I am thinking of H&R springs and shocks 35/35 mm , or KW 40/40 mm! For a daily driver i dont need coilovers ! Somebody with M30 should advise how this was solved in his conversion!

Ive got 60mm apex spring on my m30 powered turd and it is more like 70mm

ive got some 40mm springs to put on but ive been too lazy to bother :o:

coilovers are the answer but at a cost

Being a bit tart asking for advice in this way aren't you? I know that Gareth pursued a fair amount of research before choosing his suspension set up. I also mentioned how Alpina sprung their E30 M30 conversion and you sound sour! Perhaps you are foreign without a full command of the language but wind your neck in - the guillotine was invented in England you know.

Dear All , please take my deepest appologies if i have offended somebody without meaning and by mistake !
I would be very happy if you could share your expirience with me for my suspention problem , my personal opinion is that coilovers are not needed for a daily car !
Thanks for your attention in advance
Yours Simeon

hahahaaa! that's brilliant! :D
no offence taken this end by the way. i personally sourced coilovers as that would be the easiest way of ensuring i getthe spring rate and ride height i needed without spending £££££ on many sets of springs to 'try out'

coilovers need not be expensive

I've run both KW 60/40mm and Apex 60mm on my M30B35, both brought new with matched uprated shocks and neither sat any lower than when the M20 was in. I did poly bush the whole car and replace all ball joints at the same time so may have helped with keeping the car at the correct height by tightening it all up.

If you've got H&R 60/40 give it a try if you like the way the car drives, you may found it sits the same.

Ok , i will leave the 60/40 H&R and i will change the shocks , KONI or BILSTEIN you will say and what models ? i am thonking of B6 bilstein or yelow KONI , what do you think?
If i dont like how the car is standing i will change the front springs with 35 mm ones!
