I currently have a 318i auto and was planning for a 325i conversion. Now I have found a stolen recovered 325i auto thats been sitting for a couple of years but starts and runs fine.
Is this a simple conversion and would it be better to buy the whole car off him as the car is cheap enough?
Would I need the 325 gearbox or is mine ok to use?
How much would it cost for someone to do the engine swap?
Any advice/tips would be great.
Thanks in advance
Advice please on 325

Buy the whole car, you will be needing the bigger front suspension and better brakes, IIRC...
318 = 45mm front struts, solid front discs / rear drums
325 = 51mm front struts, Ventilated front discs / solid rear discs
It will be worth replaceing the suspension bushes too, M3 ones for the front wishbones
and a new pair of engine and gearbox mounts.
Give the 325 lump a good seeing to while it's out, Cambelt, water pump ect and you MUST change the sump gasket with it out of the car, should take half an hour tops. With it in the car your talking several hours and much testicular discomfort

Thanks for that stonsie. Wasn't too sure of the technical side but it means its better to buy the whole car with all the bits that i need.
Do you have any idea how much it would cost to get someone to do the whole conversion as im a bit useless?
