Would be grateful if anyone can help... I've got an E30 with a 2.5 24 valve engine.. I didnt do the conversion, just bought the car as is.. Just picked the car up a few days ago.. Think it was ok when i collected it,.. After driving about 100 miles home it developed a misfire :( It seems to run on all 6 cylinders on tickover or if you just keep it at an even speed, but misfires on acceleration.. Strange thing is tho that it comes back on all 6 just before the red line.. Tried new spark plugs & swaped coil packs from another car thats running fine.. This made no difference at all.. Could a VANOS issue cause this? Another thing i've noticed is that on tne move the temp gauge sits very cold & only comes up when car is stationary.. Dont no if this could be causing it or even be relevant.. The car has an E36 M3 rad in it & was thinking this was maybe making the engine run to cool..

Would really appreciate any help.. Thanks in advance.. Jonny..

Does it have an M20 dash sender for the coolant?

Rad will not make it run cool, the stat controls the temp, the rad controls the amount of heat it can dissipate when required

Earth straps all ok? Tried resetting the ecu? Ecu grounded properly?

I would start by replacing the engine/body earth strap.
Then fit a new 'stat and 'stat housing.

my e36 was like this and it was the head gasket... no oil/water issues, but low mid range power and anything from 3-6 cylinders...

If it's running cool, it will also be running rich (and hence, poorly!)
Sort the temperature out first.

Hi all & thanks for all the help.. I have finally managed to get to the bottom of the the prob.. After swapping lots of bits from other cars i got to find out it was just an air flow metre.. Had it out at a sprint on saturday & came 2nd, so well pleased wif that.. It was the last event of the year & thinking of puttin a 3.0 M3 engine in..
Thanks again & keep en eye out for lots of questions.. haha..
