Your're in the right place mate! Have a look at the top of this forum, theres a huge thread all about it. Its a bit crap and mixed up in places but theres a lot of good info there so reading through that would be a good start.

Where in the country are you from mate? Get your name down on the group buy for steering linkages (see group buys) - it will save you a load of hassle re the exhaust manifolds!

That M50 sticky at the top of the page has all the answers but its so long its enough to put anyone off doing the swap.

Do a search for M50 or M52 in engine swaps/forced induction and read a couple of threads/builds/problems posted

The main headache is the exhaust manifold as it has to be cut and re welded to clear the column and everything else around that area, or you could get one from fritzbitz but they will knock a grand out of you for it.

Apart from that its fairly straight forward.

Welcome btw :D

Hi and welcome.
316 isn't the best base car to get as there's more work involved in getting the conversion done in terms of suspension set up.This one comes with the thinner of the struts, but if you're planning a complete strip and rebuild then it shouldn't pose too much of a problem.

standard e30's handle really well. even 316's! However the solid discs might not be upto it

For research purposes study the above mentioned thread,it was written by the guys who first did this conversion, you see all their problems and how they were overcome.
Beemerlads thread in this section is also a good read....
And digging back into the photo gallery for my thread 'Daimlerman's folly' will also entertain,my spec includes the Fritz manifold!
As said, main areas are exhaust, engine wiring and brake servo.
Starting with an E36 is good, you will have a decent length of engine loom to get the ECU under the dash, the correct engine mounts but the wrong sump...
You will also have EWS to contend with,if you have the room, buy a complete running donor car,and hang on to it until you are satisfied you have ALL the bits you need!
Oh,welcome to the zone,BTW!

True Bob, that's why I said if its a complete rebuild, then I suppose he will be changing brakes, suspension etc....
