Golf servo's all the same??

I am trying to find a smaller servo for my e36 m3 because i have a cage fitted that goes through to the strutts and now the m3 servo fouls the cage.

I know you guys say a mk2 golf servo will bolt straight in to an e30 but i am worried that the master cylinder won't be upto the challenge of running m3 brakes??

I have noticed the mk4 golf has a small servo too which will obviously be newer and may have better master cylinder options if i get one from say a 1.8t or an r32??

So does anyone know if the mk4 golf servo has the same bolt pattern as the mk2 servo?

I would suggest running a plastic wing clio servo with a 25mm audi master as per the 24v swaps..

Haha, the cage comes with a warning that your servo will probably not fit, most people use bias pedal boxes and 6 pots but i can't afford that yet!

What year is the plastic wing clio? does anyone have an accurate measurement of the servo?

that's ok then. At least you knew about it beforehand. I have deleted the servo, kept the OE M/C and changed the pedal ratio of the BMW pedal. Haven't driven it yet so can't say if this is a viable option.

If you hunt through beemerlad's epic thread you will find a photo of a stock sevo alongside a clio one,my wife has the touring today so I cannot pop out and measure the servo for you!
Runs in my mind that the standard E30 one is 11'' and the clio around 8-9'',but similar capacity as the clio one is deeper.
Expect to pay about £10 at the scrappy.

2000 onwards Clio

Clio servo on the right in the pic below compared to E30 servo. The E30 master cylinder fits to the clio servo no problem, you may need to insert a spacer anywhere between 5-10mm in length into the master cylinder where the rod comes through from the car.



The clio servo is also a Bosch item

Nice one thanks mate, what kind of master cylinder do you think I should use? Do you think the 325i one will struggle with m3 calipers?

The M3 M/C is 23mm, but people also use the 25mm from E32 750 for less pedal travel (but more effort!)

It looks like 36's have different bolt patterns to the e30, my e36 has 65mm between the 4 bulkhead studs but the e30 has 75mm....

Anyone got any other options for me?

Invest in a small round file and remove 5mm of material from each hole in the E36 bulkhead so the clio servo fits?

I looked at that but it would also mean modifying the e36 pedal box which does not look like it has enough clearance......

Leave the servo out altogether. Regain the the lost mechanical advantage (of the missing servo) by increasing your pedal ratio and fitting a smaller diameter M/C. This is not a road car I take it?

No it is a rally car, i already have like a 7-1 pedal ratio, will a smaller m/c make as much difference as a servo? the pedal is rock solid at the mo!
