Hi

well i've bought a cheap 318 that was to good to pass up. I have the intention to swap for the e30 16v or preferably the e36 1.9 16v engine

basic m42 swap

rear axle, prop, gear box, mounts, someone fill in the blanks so i know what i'm looking at :)

also is the loom and ecu self contained or is it wired into the car like old rs turbos ie you need all the wiring as its not separate.

on the 1.9 are the differences flywheel size, bolt pattern or will it bolt in the same as the m42?

thanks

M42 is the 1.8 16v the 1.9 16v is the M44.

M42 was found in the E30 318iS, and E36 up to '95. M44 was E36 post '95.

You'll need the engine loom and ECU for which ever engine you decide to use, easy enough to change. If you used either of the E36 engines you'll need to change the sump and engine mounts. Also need to change the inlet manifold if you use an E36 lump.

You'll need a full exhaust too.
