 HELP!!! I own an E36 M reg B,M,W 1.6is, and my baby E30 G reg 1.8is. Well the G reg has developed a nasty tick, and the lowest quote ive had to fix her is £800. And my M reg needs over £1000 to get it back on the road. So i had a brain wave about swoping the engines. So i keep my beloved E30 but i get a relyable engine. But i need to know if its A, an easy job? and B, if so what needs to be changed...... Please can anybody help???

I got an E36, that the body is totaled on, but the engine and gearbox are sound. and i have an E30 where the body is sound, but the engine has developed a nasty tick. the cheepest quote ive had to fix the tick is £800. if i swap engines its must work out a hell of alot cheeper... you see where im aiming??

A few points worth considering.
The engine in the E36 will not be a direct fit,the sump will foul the E30 crossmember.
Once you have overcome this, with the related oil pump pick up issues involved, you will have to consider engine management issues.
After you have solved this, you will have to sort an exhaust manifold/downpipe.
Might just be easier to sort your ticking engine..... winkeye

That, at least, is an easy question to answer! One is verging on becoming a classic, while the other will only ever be baked bean tin raw material.

You should be able to get a decent E30 is engine off the zone for less than £250, i did! Make sure you see and hear it run before handing over the cash though.
