Ive read the sticky..
What i dont understand is, if the M50 block is the same as the M20, why cant the M20 sump be used?
I also see its possible to use M20 gearbox/fly/starter/prop with modified linkage and mounts, or have i misunderstood?

A variety of gearboxes, etc. can be used with an M50 engine in an E30, but the only sump that will do is the E34 24V one.

Only simularity between M20 and M50 block is the bore spacing is the same.
M20 gearbox may well bolt on to M50 block, but how do you intend to swap gears with the 'stick hard against the tunnel hole?
Easy solution is to use the M40 gearbox(Getrang 240),with a 320 gearstick mount.
M20 fly' will fit,but you need Mr Angle Grinder to modify the lower bottom sump/block area.(hold the fly in place and you will see what is required)This simple mod eliminates the 'orrible, heavy, dual mass M50 fly.
Use the matching M20 starter and clutch,of course.
Using the above mix means that a stock E30 prop can be used, along with the full range of E30 diffs.
