i have been thinking of doing this for quite a while and read most pages of previous swaps.
i have made a list of stuff which i think i need before i get started.

my plan is to have everything thought of and changed before i attempt the swap. well thats the plan
i am going to use 3.0 m3 engine. if anything is wrong or there are alternatives please let me know

1) brake servo- prob use the one from clio, but what clio?
1a) has some got drawing to fabricate the frame to shift servo 60mm
2) master cyclinder- mkii golf gti
3) e36 328sport gearbox- i believe there are 2 types. is it the big bell house i want
4) propshaft- 328sport with e30 centre bearing
5)engine mounts- e28 m5 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Engine-M ... ccessories
6) e30 325i gearbox mount
7) sump- M50 525i sump with oil pick up. what do you need to drill into sump?
8) new fan belt- is the a part code for this??
9) radiator- e36 m3
10) m20 coolant sensor
11) heater matrix- 19mm 90degree flex- what did people use"?
12) blanking plate for emission pump
13) manifold fab and exhaust 2.25"
14) m20 oil cooler
15) wiring diagrams- i think i read someone has these diagrams

things im not to sure of.
header tank
diff to use. can i just use the 328i

this list took a bit of time to compile, ill appreciate any comments and help

thanks James

Plastic winged Clio, sorry cant remember the year.
2) master cyclinder- mkii golf gti
Not quite. Its a Golf servo (either Mk1 or Mk2) that can be used. For the Master Cylinder, it depends on which servo you use. I think the Clio m/c can be used if you use the Clio servo.
Ive not moved my servo over, but modded the plenum instead. Im using a Mk2 Golf servo and an Audi m/c.
If you use Mk1 Golf servo, I think the E30 m/c will fit once the servo has been moved.
3) e36 328sport gearbox- i believe there are 2 types. is it the big bell house i want
Im not aware of 2 different 328i gearboxes. Basically you want the gearbox that comes with the 3.0l M3 engine - its a 5 speed box which is the same as the 328i box (its the ZF box, not the getrag as found in E36 325i's etc).
4) propshaft- 328sport with e30 centre bearing
I think that works. The E30 M3 prop is a straight fit.
5)engine mounts- e28 m5
E36 M3 alloy arms and E28 M5 mounts. I think those in the link are right.
6) e30 325i gearbox mount
Correct
7) sump- M50 525i sump with oil pick up. what do you need to drill into sump?
Correct again. There is drain from the plenum (or vent from the sump) that needs adding to the sump. It can be drilled and the bit unscrewed from the S50 sump and added or (as I did) you can braze it into the dipstick tube.
8) new fan belt- is the a part code for this??
11 28 1 401 162 - that should be for the shorter belt if you deleting the A/C pump and emission pump.
9) radiator- e36 m3
Yes
10) m20 coolant sensor
Yes, for the rad and the M20 temp gauge sensor.
11) heater matrix- 19mm 90degree flex- what did people use"?
I think its 19mm, but yes 2 x 90 degree bends and the matrix pipes need trimming back into the bulkhead or the plenum wont fit.
12) blanking plate for emission pump
11 72 1 402 416 for the blanking plate
11 72 1 318 467 for the gasket
13) manifold fab and exhaust 2.25"
Dosent have to be 2x2.25", 2x2" will be fine.
14) m20 oil cooler
I think the E36 M3 cooler can be used, but some custom pipes are needed either way.
15) wiring diagrams- i think i read someone has these diagrams
Ian332isport is the main man, he is a god like helpful person.
things im not to sure of.
header tank
diff to use. can i just use the 328i
E30 header tank, E30 M3 or Z3M diff is whats needed. The E36 diff is no use.
this list took a bit of time to compile, ill appreciate any comments and help

thanks James

thanks for the reply.
is there anything you feel i may have missed?

im going to take an hour someday and make a plan of exactly what i have to do and when i should do it, in the hope to make the swap as efficient as possible.

I've been compiling a list of my own aswell for when I do my conversion.

I'll list some things from my list that's not on yours -

Electric fan (E30 A/C one is fine)

Suitable Fuel pump

Brake servo/master cyl assembly needs relocating away from engine for clearance and an E34 brake pull rod (modified to fit) is required

Existing AFM brackets need removing

If you have ABS and want to use the original S50 air filter assembley then the ABS hydrolic unit needs relocating

If using B32 engine upgrade conrod bolts with ARP ones (201-6102, BMW E36-E46 rod bolt kit ) www.arrowprecision.co.uk

Part reqd to alter signal for tacho to work correctly using original 325i coding plug -

Part reqd to alter signal for econometer to work correctly -

Good Luck with the conversion. :thumb:

The E30 pump is fine with the 3.0l, its just the 3.2l that needs an uprated pump.
I can however, confirm that a swirl pot is needed.

This will depend on which method you use to sort the servo/plenum clearance issue. My modded plenum has been made about an inch narrower and as such the standard S50 airbox wont fit - the radiator hose is in the way.
I assume that by moving the servo over, the plenum does not need any modding, in which case it will be fine (other than moving the ABS pump). From what I remember seeing, its still a very tight fit.
