Hi all, been thinking lately about a turbo. Got a 320iSE, lovely car, BUT i feel the need for more power !!!! I wanna turbo a 325, gonna look for a 2.5 lump and rebuild it completely, from the crank up. How much can the 2.5 be bored out to? Heard of the 2.7 but was wondering if 3.0 was possible? Lighten the flywheel, balance moving parts, gas flow head, low compression pistons, metal head gasket, pretty much the whole nine yards. LSD uprated clutch etc. Not to sure on the the throttle bodies? Make my own maybe? Intercooler for sure. Any thought's, sure you guys have heard it all before, but your thought would help me decide.

:o you're some other version of me!

Not too sure about the capacity a 325 can be taken to, sure someone'll be along to help on that front.

All sounds good to me :)

My rebuild cost about Ԛ£1k which didn't include for pistons. Think if you get a late spec 325 motor, they're 8.5:1 odd compression anyway so you shouldn't need to modify it I don't think :)

I'm making direct to head TBs for mine, it's a lot of work but hopefully it'll be worth it in terms of improving throttle response slightly.

Don't forget somesort of engine management in there. Ideally something that can read positive manifold pressure and which has control over both fueling and ignition.

Keep us posted!

You can get 2.7 from a crank and rod change or contact Irleland engineering in the states for a 3ltr stroker conversion.

I'm using a stock (150k) 2.5 lump, should be fine for the less than 1 bar I'll be using.

ECU seems to be the key expense really....emerald is close on Ԛ£1k with mapping....there are others tho..infact don't you have experiance with the dastek unichip??? If that can run the 7 injectors on the M3 335turbo, it should be able to handle the details.

Good luck too, I'm only a ECU problem away now......hopefully :D

I have just finished installing a haltech ecu It is a messy job and expensive and I have not finished sisnce I have to dyno the car after doing another 500 klm. I had to strip the motor twice because on the dino the power droped after 4500 rows I had done the 2.7 conv with the cam and I wasnt sure about compresion so I had to check rods, pistons and clearance of the valves on the pistons since there were signs of one meeting the other. At the end I grounded the pistons on the valve area and now I wait for the dyno to make the program of the ecu if everything runs ok Only for sencors ecu and wiring the cost in greece was 3700 euro, I dont mention the complete rebuild of the motor, the cam spring and gas flow of the head, the headers, cat. etc, the new radiator and all the trials for the faults that htey were done, which I paid. Anyway it seems that my trouble was the adjustable cam gear I machined.
noe the car has an ecu to drive a turbo,
but I spent a lot af money and other known solutions would be cheeper. I anynone wants to follow my path I can give advise

what engine do I get the 2.7 crank and rods from? Could I top the pistons to up the CC? or would that not make much of a diff??
A mate of mine had a dastek unichip on his GTE 16v WOW, what a diff it made.
