If the rad has a boss for a temp sender then fit it there, its the best place.
When I had my temp sender in the top hose I found the fan was coming on too often

Indeed, the fan is there to help cool the radiator, the thermostat is there to control the engine temperature. So the 'stat could be closed and the fan could be blowing air over a cold rad'

i think that switch is from an e28 [ could be wrong ] . i spoketo my local motor factors told them the thread size and pitch and thats wot they found for me . i have since looked on intermotors website at fan switches and there is a good number of switches with the same thead with various temps . m14x1.5 is the thead http://partfinder.smpeurope.com/index.h ... 9&value=42
