How much clearance have you got between your sump and your steering rack?

Very little!
In fact at Santa Pod 2007 I thought I'd broken something after my first hard launch, it turned out to be the sump just touching the rack, causing horendous noises and vibrations through the car.
A few large washers between the engine mount and mounting bracket sorted it out.

I have about 4 to 6mm clearance on mine, but i suppose it could be down the the engine mounts used.
Why the question, do u have an issue with yours??

Just replaced the O/S mount as it was sagging & causing contact...
I went for a 35mm poly bush, as I expected the 50mm option to be too tall - apparently normal m20 ones are about 40mm when fitted.
Fully expected to have to space the 35mm one a bit, but tbh I think 50mm would have been better.
Has anyone looked at moving the rack downwards slightly? Can't picture how it mounts to the subframe, but I'm pretty sure it sticks up further...

Theres a thread on here somewhere about the polybush engine mounts splitting on the m30's, that's why i replaced mine with the m20 ones.

i have very little clearance. i'm using e30.de position 2/3 mounts and fresh(ish, were fresh when i fitted the M30) M20 rubbers. after a few miles on the new rubbers, they sagged so i knocked up some 5mm spacers to shim things up again.

I don't think you can move a standard E30 rack, but if you are using E36 or Z3 racks then there is room for adjustment depending if you put the spacers above or below the rack mounts.
I also used new M20 mounts when the M30 went in, they must have settled just enough by the time I got to Santa Pod!

But they were cheap ebay tat bushes. I got some Ireland engineering poly mounts and they were great on my track car.Rav335uk wrote:Theres a thread on here somewhere about the polybush engine mounts splitting on the m30's, that's why i replaced mine with the m20 ones.
I don't know why people are suprised when the cheap shit they buy turns out to be...well, shit.

The mount that went saggy on me was only a couple of years old... but it was a cheap ECP/GSF (whichever I was nearest to when the old mount ripped apart
) one, so I was far from surprised!
I think I'm going to have to go with a rack upgrade soon. I'll have to have a search on here as I'm sure it's an issue that's come up before. Sure the ally steering coupling won't be enough to give me sufficient clearance or I'd have already done it!
