Hi all, Nearly done with my engine swap, but need some info on engine numbers. Got to notify dvla of the swap, change the cc and new engine number(but) here's the prob. the number on the block is unreadable. Are all engine numbers uniuqe to ever engine(pretty sure they are) or could i just make one up refering to the right cc. Not sure what to do?

What engine is it?
rub with sandpaper on the flat where the number is and it will come through!

Unreadable engine numbers can have their advantages when it comes to MOT emissions time!

A legible M50 engine number is quite rare, you dont have to notify the DVLA of an engine change

Engine number on my M50 is unreadable,I wirebrushed both sides of the block and painted it as well! The guy who did the ViC check spent some time searching for the number, then I showed him a photocopy of the V5 for the donor....with the number he wanted on it...

I've yet to see an MOT man look at/for the engine number. VIN, but not engine.e030deltron wrote:just want it to be right and for the mot
