I'm currently converting my track orientated E21 to an M50 but I don't think I'll be wanting to use this as a daily driver. I'm thinking of M50'ing an E30 touring to keep as my everyday road car. I currently drive an E30 318is and get roughly 30-32mpg. The 318is will need some work for its next MOT and I was originally contemplating reshelling the running gear into a 318i touring, but I can also get my hands on a facelift 325i touring which I would do the M50 conversion on. What it comes down to is really what MPG is realistic from the M50. Ideally If I had the time and money I could convert the M50 to gas for uber cheap driving...

I get mid to high 20's from mine.. But I do a lot of stop start in traffic, and B road blasts.. Oh and it doesn't help that it encourages me to have a lead right foot.
On a run its pretty good though, easy mid 30's

30+ for an unmolested, good condition M50, unless you have feet like Jhonno

So in the lighter E30 on a run would 40 be possible?BadDave wrote:The M52B28 in my 528i Touring averages about 29mpg according to the OBC

Low to mid 30's at a guess
More if you drive like an OAP

have the same car. for 36mpg you need to lift off quite a lot. Everything over 70mph on a steady run will drop it to 32-34 or less. I have just driven back from Germany and if you go 100mph it will drop a LOT.BadDave wrote:The M52B28 in my 528i Touring averages about 29mpg according to the OBC

If driven in town with start stop or spirited on country roads I do not see better than 20-22mpg
I wish I would have fitted LPG when I bought the car two years ago. 40 Euro cent for LPG in Belgium
