my brother owns a 88 316 can he swap a m20 320 engine in with all the parts? and how do you go about wiring loom?

hi if hes removing the engine from a donor car if he takes the complete engine loom out without cutting. it all unplugs from beside the fuse box c101 (big round plug ) then unplugs from the ecu and this can be feed back into the engine bay then the battery conection needs split up the loom from the 316 will come out the same way and once the engine and box has been changed over the 320 engine loom will plug back in to the car where the 316 loom was unplugged ( remember to change the ecu to the 320 ecu) it is a very straight forward job and is just plug and play

He might want to swap the front springs as well. A M20 is a fair bit heavier than a M40!

also true. plus i would use the front brakes from the 320 as there vented where as the 316 will have solid front discs and smaller callipers( unless it has abs which i don't think it would have )

OP,there is a potential wiring issue with the C101 connector.Have a read through the sticky so that you will be able to check your plug out.
