Something tells me that would be quite a ball ache of a job, aren't they pedal by wire?
Bosses 530d is damn quick, they can be remapped to 535d power outputs too, sounds a good idea but with the amount of tech it has I can't see it being very easy at all.
Lovely engine tho, plenty of power, most drivers are happy to have a go on the motorway, one of the few cars I've had to drop a cog to keep up, have played with quite a few but they're not that fast

and what will you do with the rest of the engineless e46?
my mates chipped 330d gave my touring more of a race than his other chipped 330 petrol. i only had 282bhp in those days though.

Do it!! Someone has to be the first.
I've no idea as to what mechanical problems you will encounter, but the electrical ones will be many and interesting. There's enough knowledge and resources on here to get you through, though!
Don't throw away ANY of the E46 until you're finished though.

It has already been done!! Into a Tech 1!
They are quick buggers in the 5 series! Enough so to struggle (a little) to peg one in my M50'd e30
In an e30 I'd imagine it'd be fairly epic feeling in the mid range

That is a new shape one btw.. Not the old 184bhp one!
The new 7 series has a new 240bhp variant of the single turbo 3.0d lump
