I currently have a M50 2.5 VANOS engine from a 93 E34 5 series in my car, runs on a chipped ECU with no cats or lambdas, runs spot on etc etc.
I've managed to source a M52 2.8 engine which im picking up this weekend.
I want to put this engine in and run it on the M50 managment. I'll be using the M50 manifolds and all the M50 sensors, so basically just a block and head change.
Now i've heard that some people running the 2.8 on M50 managment have all sorts of running issues and overfuelling problems?
Did a bit of a search and couldn't really find what I needed to answer the question.
Just wondering is there a different between M50 VANOS and NON VANOS engine looms if so could that be why they were having issues? By using a early M50 loom.
I've also heard something about the front pulley needing to be changed even tho other people say its the same.
Can't really think with out looking at it but guessing this is the one that the crank sensor looks at?
So if this was different then it would mess up the timing etc and cause running issues?
As i can't see myself why running the 2.8 on the M50 management causes such a problem? Cause surely its just more air going in which MAF sees and if the ECU has been mapped which mine has to fuel for this then it should be happy days? So the only difference could be a position of a sensor or something along those lines to make the ignition timing out?(Just thinking out aloud could be missing out on stuff)
I pick the engine up tomorrow so will have a better idea of what im looking at then, see if anything looks differen't but if anyone on here already knows what to do than that would be a great help.
Sorry for the long post.
Cheers.

It'll be fine, apart from needing the ECU tweaking a bit. The 2.5 MAF is fine with a 2.8 - BMW used the 2.5 MAF on the 3 litre V8.
Just make sure it's an M52 single Vanos and not twin. The different crank pulleys were between the M50 vanos and non vanos.

Top man those were the answers i was looking for.
I spoke to the guy that did my ECU and he said i'll be ok with whatever he did to it lol.

I think the crank pulley needs to be rotated 180 degrees I think the m52 has different timing mark for crank sensor
I think you will need to fit m50 crank pulley .

Will this be obvious when i've got the two engines? i.e the crank sensor in a different location?

Put them both to tdc and see where the nothes in the wheel are.. It'll be obvious then.
