I have hit a snag with my gearlinkage.I am using an M40 'box and assumed that the gearbox would sit in the same place as it would with a weedy 4 pot in front of it. The 'box has mounted in the middle of the three options on the underside. But the alloy part that the gearlever sits in is about 2 inches too far back...this is part number 1220871,realoem is showing this as the correct part for the'box,do I need 1221201,which is the equivilant shown for an M20 size 'box? The first part number given is about 17 and a half inches long...has anyone got a 6 cylinder part handy to check the part number cast into it for me,please?

I think the shortest linkage is the 325 one as thats the one used on the m30 conversions.

Realaom shows the same part number for 320i/325i...but I need to be certain that I am ordering the correct length part...
just need a measurement if someone has one on the garage floor...

when I have put that part number in it has advised me it is from an E36
E36 320i SEDAN
E36 323i CONVERTIBLE
E36 323i COUPE
E36 325i SEDAN
E36 325i CONVERTIBLE
E36 325is COUPE
so it most probably is the wrong part, true to form

Very cunning of you, every time I use a hacksaw I seem to get a wobbly cut!! If the 320 part that I have obtained does not do the trick I will attempt your method...Bob_S wrote:i used an is linkage and just cut 56.5mm from the middle and chemical metaled it back together

Why has all this talk of cutting lever arms come from?!
I am not sure what one it is that fits, but I have a standard one one my setup with a ZF box.. I believe it is an e36 item
