325i motor swap into 316i LUX touring 1993
just wondering if this is a relitively simple swap to do?
ie. is there many snags such as changing brake master cyl to fit engine in or fuel pump, just trying to get as much info as possible as to make the swap go smoothly,

tips & ideas appreciated, thanks and ill keep u posted

cheers, daz

No problems at all, except that the bracket for the AFM is slightly different and the mount for the 325 coolant header tank is missing.
You will need to fit a set of 6 pot springs to your front suspension, because of the much heavier engine.
New parts required are engine with all ancillaries including loom and ECU, radiator and tank, AFM, gearbox, prop, and, if you want any kind of decent fuel consumption, a 325 diff.

its easier starting with a touring as a base its already got the bigger struts and rear disc brakes your going to need some six pot springs though

The only thing you won't get is the 'check' system up by the interior mirror. To transfer this over, you will have to change the entire body wiring loom, including fusebox.
If you retain the 316 instrument cluster, you will have to remove the little trim panel right under the cluster, and swap over the coding plug under it in order for the rev counter to know it's now connected to a six pot.

Brian, would your post for the wiring loom apply to this swap, as reading your thread about the BROWN wire melting away under the glove box??

Unlikely, on a late car like this, but check pin 20 on either side of the engine loom connector anyway. You may have to add a wire for ABS.
