M30 question, electronic accelerater?

Hello,

After blowing the headgasket in my recently finished 335 project i've also found another M30 engine with a recon head and shrick cam.

This engine does however have a complete electronic accelerater pedal, no pulling cables. Does anyone know about this as this is the first i've heard of it on an M30 (from a E34)

So my question is if i swap of the throttle bodie will i still be able to use the existing setup of the pull cable without any troubles? Guess i may have to use the current engine loom for this new engine aswell?

You will need your loom. And will have to change your throttle body also. The studs for the body will have to be changed over also.

Using electronic throttle is also an option, though it needs some modifying to accelerator-pedal but nothing which couldn't be done.

Not so many "fly by wire" E30's out there ;)

i take it i would need the sensor out of the E34 if i were to convert? Is there any difference to connecting up to the e30 loom? Sounds like it may be less effort to convert to the "fly by wire"!?!? Whats the advantages of this?

I wouldnt mess around to be honest.

you will need your loom and sensor. And a couple of breather hoses also.

The electronic throttle is almost certainly less likely to stick open than a manual one, because it will have fail safes built into it.
At the slightest sign of trouble it will probably go into a 'limp' mode - possibly a fast idle.
I've no knowledge of the system on this particular model, but these electronic systems tend to take inputs from all over the car, from things which appear irrelevant, and you end up with a car that won't exceed 30MPH if a number plate lamp is blown, or something equally ridiculous. (Maybe a slight exaggeration, but not by much.)

i dont like that sound of that, i've already accidently knocked into 'limp' mode for a few seconds from driving it lik theres no tomorrow! Looks like i'll stick with the normal version!
