same as s50 with added wiring hassle/cost - needs a standalone that can run twin vanos, unless you are going to lock it (if that is possible on the S54)

But no idea in having a VANOS engine without VANOS?
The swap can be done, as almost anything can be fitted to E30. No sense in that, though. You can get same power out of S50 with little tuning, and S50 is easy swap.

What's wrong with vanos? if your swapping the ecu/loom over, won't the vanos work?
How do you lock it?

Nothing at all wrong with the vanos - it's very much worth having.oze30 wrote:What's wrong with vanos? if your swapping the ecu/loom over, won't the vanos work?

The problem is with the ECU that comes with the engine. It requires inputs from all over the car to keep it happy - signals that you just aren't going to find on an E30.

So it's not just limited to the major running gear then?

I've seen this said a number of times...is there a list lurking somewhere? Could they be replicated? I suppose if its stuff like climate control, seatbelts or whatever, maybe not.Brianmoooore wrote:The problem is with the ECU that comes with the engine. I suppose that if you manage to fit enough of the M3 into the E30 shell, then it would work!

there must be ways around all the problems. it all comes down to cash at the end of the day. how much you're willing to spend to be a trend setter.

Gaffa tape is like "the force" - it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
There's nothing that shouts "Poor Workmanship" more than wrinkles in the Gaffer tap
