Can anyone help please. your sat at the lights in town in your coolish lookin bm youve got the window down and all you can here is the engine sounding like an old fiesta with a 150k on the clock its embarasin.How hard would it be to drop in something like an m20 what would i have to change and is it cost efective or should i just buy a newer e30. The car is a facelift modle if that makes any diference thanks.

M50/M52 is the most modern engine that I can think of that can be dropped into an E30 fairly easily. plenty of power and torque as well as being much more economical than the M20s. M30 is a cheap way of getting a nice blob of grunt, but it's a fairly dated engine design.

I vote M50 swap.. It's so cheap and easy, and makes for a very nice E30.
