Here you go mate .An appropriate transmission for the 335i can be found in many different models and series. The 5-, 6- and 7-Series all had a transmission that will fit the bill. Several models within each series will be possible sources. For example:

e28: 525i 528i 535i M535i
e23: 728i 728 733i
e24: 628 630 628CSi 635CSi

The newer versions of the M30 also have appropriate transmissions. If an older engine is to be used the transmission from a newer car can not be used. The newer engines will, however accept the older transmissions. Any of the following cars will be suitable donors for the transmission (to be mounted to a newer engine):

e34: 530i 535i
e32: 730i 735i

The sport transmissions from the following cars are also acceptable substitutes for the standard manuals listed above:

e28: M5
e24: M635CSi
e34: M5 3.6 M5 3.8
e30: M3
Alpina: B6 2.8 B6 3.5

The sport transmissions, listed directly above, all have close ratio gearing. It should also be noted that the fifth gear in each of these gearboxes has a ratio of 1:1. As a result a numerically lower differential is needed to provide a reasonable top speed. Those from the ETA cars are suitable; either the 2.93:1 or the 2.73:1 would serve this purpose well.

Bit of an update though not too much in the way of progress. Spent some time yesterday making sure all nuts etc (didnt forget the g/box Oze) were nice and tight before attemping to install the engine and box using the hiab.
Not the best idea considering the state of the weather, strong winds and driving rain, thenihad an even worse idea. Because of the position i had to park in i was having trouble operating the hiab and seeing the actual engine bay, so i enlisted the help of the mrs......... think you know where this is heading.
Lets just say i had to get a takeaway for Sunday dinner, engine aint in and i think ive gone deaf(result :)
Just to compound matters, on thursday i put my freshly painted fuel injector rail at the bottom of the stairs while i washed my hands. O ne of my daughters chose that moment to venture out of her room and come downstairs. Did i mention the fact that she was wearing those great big Goth boots with about a seven inch sole, anyway she stepped straight onto the rail breaking one bracket and crushing one of the injector holes    . Im begining to think someone up there doesnt want me to finish this.
But i will :)

:x :x :x Geared myself to get engine and box into the touring today, didnt count on a visitor to my neighbour who has not only parked right where i need to be but then decided to go shopping ,taking car keys with her.
Sum total of todays effort is the fitting of new M30 accelerator and the removal of power steering pump from engine.

All makes sense now mate!! Thats some fooking bad luck!!

If I lived a bit closer I would gladly lend a hand, I'm an m30 newbie but I am a mechanic which makes things slightly easier!!

If you need any advice then you know where I am. :D

How far along is it now? I see the last post is before christmas 8O
