ive bought v few 'wrong' bits for mine thanks to the legends that are Ian and co.

ive spent approx

2k BMW
1.5k Exhaust
1.9k Engine/box
275 Diff

Then few odds and sods on top (plus another 1k on a head rebuild but hey. Not like that is usual  )

As Jhonno said, £6k is the round about DIY figure, but that includes a few upgrades and getting everything sorted.
I have to admit though, depending on how mad I go with suspension and brakes, my conversion will probably come in at about £5k - that doesnt include the new wheels or resray though

I agree, IMO (and possibly a few others on here) theres no point in doing a conversion like this if its going to be a half arsed job - if youre going to fit a heavier, more powerful engine that will make the car faster, you would be a fool not to upgrade brakes, suspension at the very least. A £1200 conversion (Im guessing thats just labour??) is just going to cause more problems in the future and someone will end up paying out more to get it sorted - better off doing the job properly to start with.

Jason at the E30 Centre will do a good job but sure he would charge more if you wanted to upgrade engine, exhaust, drivetrain etc....but gets you going and all depend on what you are looking to achieve

You cant complain it costs too much and then start saying it looks too cheap

I'd also like to see someone try and fit an E30 M3 box on the back of an S50
speaking to nigel mosley a while back he said that he had a bell house made to get the e30 dog leg to work with the M50. whether it was being made/developed and actually use i dont know ?

as for that inlet manifold it was made by zoom a long time ago, it has no internal trumpets and airflow at the back for cylinder number 6 was retricted. the same one was used on mfree's car, but phil at cpc binned it when he complted the conversion.

as fro the price of £1200 to fit it and get it running, i cant comment . but what i can comment on is that getting the engine in is easy, sorting out the wiring can be an issue especialy if you want to use the 3.2 evo engine with ews immobiliser.

one area i dont have a lot of knowledge on is wiring but from what i have seen is that it is intense and involved to get it right, and have the engine running to its full potential.

Hi All, I'm hopefully gonna start this conversion next week into an E30 M3. So will already have prop and diff. Going to use 3.2 Evo engine and 3.0 five speed box , have bought engine mounts from spooxs motorsport. Shouldn't have steering shaft problem.Got to sort the brake servo and wiring. But there seems to be a lot of help available here. I hope it doesn't cost me 6 grand! Or there could be an unfinished project for sale on ebay! Good luck with yours!I reckon it will be worth it!

Silly thread resurrection but the £1200 mentioned would only be about right for labour!
Double that for all the engine parts needed to get the engine in and running.
Could add another 1200 then for sorting suspension, brakes, bushings and things.

I'm doing a few and labour alone is ranging in 1500-2000 euro depending if its just the engine swap and few other small bits to an engine swap and get the rest of the car mechanically perfect as well and I don't think its unreasonable.

I could ask for more if I liked considering its 150-200 hours to do the lot but the way I see it by keeping costs down alittle bit it enables people to just get more new parts so I don't have to be chancing old stuff and for it to shit itself a few weeks later.

No matter what way you cut it, it'll always end up between 5-7K to end up with a decent S50ed E30.

I can not believe i have never seen this thread before!! Made me laugh though. I (as everyone else did) thought it would cost a couple of grand, Nope!! It cost me over £5000 and that's just to get it in and running. There is easily another £1500 to get it driving and stopping properly.

Yep, helped a friend of mine do his B32 swap last year and pretty sure it ended up at about 6-7K sterling by the time the engine, suspension and other bits were sorted. Brakes were improved but only decent pads and discs and lines etc so more could be spent on getting bigger brakes.
Diff could be changed from a 3.91 to a .46 or .64 too I suppose as its running the 6 speed.

Of course the full BTB system was alot of that 6-7K :o:

Was so worth it in my opinion however... amazing car!
