Interesting idea, not sure how much cooling capacity difference there is though ?SPADGE wrote:Andy how about using an auto E34 rad and using the tranny cooler for the oil? Stupid idea??
Bolt on unions so you might be able to mix and match pipes or have to go custom ?

i was wondering about this a while ago as my E28 rad has an auto transmission fluid cooler. would allow a bit more space if an intercooler was also on the cards

Not such a stupid idea thenAndy335Touring wrote:Interesting idea, not sure how much cooling capacity difference there is though ?SPADGE wrote:Andy how about using an auto E34 rad and using the tranny cooler for the oil? Stupid idea??

The pipes would be on the correct side too
I doubt the slightly less coolant capacity will make any difference as they were obviously ok on the e34.

Still no reply from Ireland Engineering, anyone used them before?
Was at a scrappers the other day, was largely unsucessful, got an E28 bottom rad hose for £1, but all the E34 top hoses had been pinched
So I started taking a throttle cable out of an E32 with an M30, had it disconnected from the inlet and disconnected in the interior after removing that bloody grommet, but I could not really see how to remove it through the bulkhead. My hands had been sliced up on all the bloody glass so I was probably a bit hasty to give in!
Any tips so I can nip back and remove it quickly without spraying blood everywhere again!!

Just out of interest Theo - which scrappy was this at?
Did they have any E30s?
I'm after a few little bits and pieces (I promise I won't take anything you might need!).
If it's on a scrappy car can't you just enlarge the hole in the bulkhead with a big screwdriver (levering it open wider) to get the cable out?
My E34 one came out quite easily from the engine side once the plastic clip/grommet thing was unclipped from the inside.

The scrapyard is up in West Drayton, in west london (near to where im at uni) They have a few poverty spec e30's there, a few e32's, few e34's, and a couple of e28's. What bits do you need?
I was reading www.e30.de/335i/00.htm and it states that in position 3, the standard M3 prop shaft needs reducing by about 7cm, is this correct? I thought it would go on without modification?

I'll probably try Woodgates as they had a few E30s last time I went.
Thanks anyway Theo!

I thought that might be the case, would be odd to go throught the hassle of sourcing an m3 prop, only to hack it anyway to get it to fit. They got it wrong !
Thanks for the T piece info too.

must go and buy a copy of that methinks!!
the T piece is there on a E28 but i didn't use it. i made my heater hoses up using part of the E30 325i and part of the E32 735i hoses, keeping the stock expansion tank. they're cut and joined under the inlet manifold. i can't remember what bits went where as it was a case of seeing what fitted.
fits well though!
oh the M3 prop will be fine in P3. that's only about 8 - 10mm bach from my P2.5 and i had easily enough spare on the slidey bit on the prop to accomodate it.

Absolutely 100% that an M3 prop will fit using P3 no problem! Mine did with no bother at allTheo325 wrote:I thought that might be the case, would be odd to go throught the hassle of sourcing an m3 prop, only to hack it anyway to get it to fit. They got it wrong !

Good stuff, hoping that once I have the car in a working space I can get the conversion done in a short period of time. I've got a shopping list which is over a page long, which I need to start doing something about!

Hi Ant, I'm really just waiting until I've sorted a place to do the work then I can trailer the sport down from Coventry and get cracking. The seller ideally wants the car out of his unit before Christmas, as he is moving to a new unit on Jan 4th and wants to avoid having to move the car from one place to another. Would be great if we could make some arrangement, I will have a talk with him during the week and give you a shout.
I really appreciate the offer, thanks again,
Theo

Out of interest, would I encounter any major problems if I were to fit the M30 into a LHD car? I know the engine mounts Ed made shift the car about 1-1.5 cm towards the nearside, would this give problems with the steering linkage?

It would probably be easier!
The steering coupling would probably have more room and on the exhaust side there will be plenty of room for a turbo!

Please don't take my words as gospel on that, I'm just going by what I've read elsewhere and a bit of assumption!
A 6-branch would be nice but have you seen the prices!

Thought I would dig this up as I am hopefully getting the car next week so can start the transplant.
I want to get a new waterpump for the engine, are the ones from ECP/GSF ok or should I go to BMW? The ones from ECP/GSF are about £30, Im guessing they are alot more from BMW?
Oh and another thing I was wondering, why is there a duct on the top of the alternator? Is it for cooling? Is it meant to be connected to anything?
