Cool, back on the road, ready for the pod, just don't forget to say hi this year !
I will do!
I still only know what a few people look like, but I'll hang around the cars!
And last year they wouldn't give me a pass to park with the Zone cars! The security/organiser people were most unhelpful!
Looking forward to this year though, as long as it's dry!

Ment to do it last year but how abouts we print a bit of paper with our forum names and mobile numbers on and leave it on the dash when we go for a walk ?
Good idea!
I do now know most people by there cars though!
In fact my mobile phone is mostly full of names followed by what car they have so I know who it is!

i have a load of those on my phone too!
last year i had a printout with my name, username, car spec and mobile number on it.
it was odd last year, i knew peoples cars but not the owners! maybe a mugshot will help identify the owners to their cars. for those who don't know what i look like, this is me in my car:

I'll be the one with the engine hoist swapping my engine for Toby's when he's fixing his driveshaft!

Right then!
It's been a while since much work has been done to my car, and I can answer a question that I've seen raised on various threads here, so I think it's time for an update / confession!
Firstly, I tidied up a few tatty interior bits and satisfied my fetish for suede in cars.
E30 M3 steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake grip and suede gaiters.

Now the good bits!
Apart from the mounting brackets and wheel spacers to fit my 17" wheels I have all the kit to carry out the 312mm Audi TT front brake conversion, including 750I master cylinder.
I have thoroughly cleaned, painted and re-sealed the calipers.

And now for the reason I need the big brakes.
As many of you will have seen in the 'E30 Parts For Sale' section, and mentioned in various threads, Toby Unna made the decision to break up his 335i turbo for parts.
I had already started gathering parts to do a similar conversion when Toby offered me the chance to buy his turbo gear and Megasquirt set up.
I felt bad that he was breaking the car but if I didn't buy them then somebody else would have.
I couldn't resist, so that's where all of Toby's turbo equipment went!

I hope to start work on this very soon, my aim is to have my 335i turbocharged by mid summer at the latest!
Before we; Toby, Theo325, Andy335Touring and I stripped Toby's car on sunday (17th february), Toby took us for a drive.
If you read this Toby, I've replaced my wrecked pants now!
What an engine!
The work Toby has done on the parts is fantastic; well thought out, creative and definately effective!
I'll let you know how I get on!

Nice box of wires, looks like fun !
Warp factor nine here we come !
Warp factor nine here we come !
I did label some of the pipes and wires, and some others are obvious but I'm still not looking forward to that part!
Should be ok though, I sometimes surprise myself, an advantage of being a pessimist!
I'm looking forward to going faster, my previous car (RX7 twin turbo) was faster than the 335 so it's still a backwards step at the moment.
And that just won't do!

Thanks guys!
I've made the decision to carry on re-re-building my original M30 (the one that's buried under a load of stuff in the garage now!
) with lower compression and a few more new parts, maybe an uprated clutch too.
I intend to run a little more boost than Toby was, but we'll see what happens.
I'm hoping to get the new engine (with turbo) in the car in a few months time.
I was quite astonished by the acceleration too!

Thanks Karan, likewise!
The only thing is, I won't be able to take much credit for it, that goes to Toby. He's done the hard work so I won't get the same sence of pride and achievement, but I am still looking forward to it.

How are you planning to lower the C/R and by how much ?
Toby's car was well rapid on apx 7psi, god knows what yours will go like with say 14psi ?

BTW, i love that pacerpete quote !
Pete was dissing somebody's crashed Nissan Primera, I loled and froflpsmled and everything at that!
I think Toby said he was running 9psi on sunday, I might be wrong though, fear erased a few memories!
But yeah, it certainly went very well!
Re: lowering the compression; I've read on some website that the M30 piston crown shape is critical to squish, so messing with piston crowns is a no-no. I'm not sure if this still applies with a turbo or not.
The other way to go is, obviously, to remove metal from the combustion chambers.
I need to research this more before jumping in but it seems turbocharging the M30 is very popular in America and I've seen several sites with potentially useful information.
I need to find out how much I should lower compression by for what results I'm trying to achieve.
I've just bought the book 'Maximum Boost' by Corky Bell.
I need to get stuck into that too!
I'll report all progress.

Have a look on the MyE28.com forum.
Start looking for an 745 long engine
piston oil squirters and a 8.0:1 C/R

Right peeps, it's been a while (about seven months) since my last update.
There is quite a bit to cover, and here's a breif summary of some of the things I've done:
318is seats fitted:

TSW wheels fitted:

E32 / E34 calipers, Audi TT discs and E32 master cylinder fitted:

Some other wheels painted body colour (diamond black) fitted:

Toby's exhaust manifold - rough seems smoothed off, just to tidy it up a little:

Engine out, again!

Sump and manifolds swapped and a big angry snail stuck on the side.

And back in the car:

And this is where it all went wrong, and the reason I missed the Santa Pod meet.

I had a nightmare over the last few weeks with wiring in the Megasquirt ecu.
I've called in the assistance of Ant, and only today I managed to pick up another M30 engine wiring harness from a scrapyard, so I'm hoping it won't be much longer before it's running again!
Here is how the car is today:

The only thing is, the E32 735i I got this engine loom off is different to the E34 loom I had before because of the pins in the C101 plugs.
I now have this, which I hope to sort out tomorrow:

Then I'm changing the rusty rear brake backplates so the handbrake works for the M.O.T., I'll also have to get the ecu mapped.
I'll let you know when I have any more news.

Looking good
how much longer do you reckon it'll be until your on the road? I bet you can't wait
BMW E30 344i track car
BMW F31 335d xdrive
BMW F31 335d xdrive
turbo is always the right choice ;)
Thanks guys!
As Gareth said, the hardest work should be over with now, so I'm hoping to have it back on the road in the next two weeks or so, and no, I can't wait to drive it!
I'm keen to get in on a rolling road, drag strip and on a track when it's done, and see what breaks first!
