Not too bothered about selling the engine whole if i couldn't even get £50 for it, i'll take the sump off for a spare, your bit and bin what i don't need.
I took it off sale because one of the bores got wet and rusty.

If you're going to do that Andy then how much would you want for the lower cover and postage ?
I'm in no desperate hurry, I'm carrying a drip tray around in the car with me!
I made it a bit better with some Hylomar as well!
Thanks,
Martin.

A bit of chemical metal or even bodyfiller might give you a week or two leak free if you can clean and key the crack

Thanks, I might try something like that as a temporary measure to keep Greenpeace off my case, they don't like oil slicks!
It's a little awkward to get to though unless I strip lots of parts off, and if I do that I might as well be changing it !
Oh well, at least my cross member won't go rusty!

£15 posted or £25 posted if i have to buy a hub puller ?
Does that seem reasonable ?
I'll try to get it off this week but i can't guarantee that i will be able too, sorry
Andy335Touring wrote: if i have to buy a hub puller ?
maybe i should be buying that hub puller
still, at least all you lot have the luxury of renewing your fappin chain tensioners! my car has run completely without the oil chain tensioner for a couple of years now because the front hub doesn't come off - despite big crow bars, lots of heat and destroying Andy's hub puller
for the record, it runs perfectly without it. the e28 version of the m30 also has no chain tensioner, i think it just makes things slightly quieter.
i reckon i'd get myself another engine to play with if i had the space, ready for when mine blows to bits

Andy - that sounds great to me. I appreciate your effort, but don't bust a gut over it, I won't have time to change it for a while even if you do get it off. Thanks!
They are a bit tight those pulleys, the nut is supposed to be done up to 440nm!
I did wonder if it would be ok without the oil pump chain tensioner, chain can't go anywhere. Aah well! At least I managed to get the three metal strips of the tensioner out of the engine!

BTW the nut shouldn't be a problem as i've got a 3/4 drive breaker bar for that biatch !
Some times the hub can be problematic as Toby and i found out on his engine
Thanks Andy, pm about to be sent!
I wished I had undone that nut on mine when the engine was still in the E34, with the old starter motor trick.
After I tried to stop the engine turning with my biggest pry bar which bent to about 30 degrees
i drilled it and cut it off!
Martin.

Well my plan is to whip the sump off, chock the crank and get some one to stand on the engine whilst try to crack the nut

if it proves to be too much hassle, ripleys in hastings have a M30 powered E32 in at the moment....

Thanks Gareth, I'll bear that in mind but wait and see if Andy has any luck with his first. I wonder how much they'd want for the whole engine!?
Could do with a spare I think!

I'm well chuffed my my latest purchase!
I desperately needed two rear tyres and the fronts wern't too good either.
So I bought these -

Although they came with centre caps but I prefer the look without them. Not to everyones taste I expect!
I don't remember seeing these wheels before, they are made by BBS and they are 15"x7" but have a dished rim.
Anyone know anything about them?
Martin.

Thanks!
The journey home was nearly as bad - another accident on the M25!
And plenty of idiots to contend with!
It was worth it though, I'm well pleased with them.
I had a young couple come over to me in B&Q car park today and asked if it was a 318 .
I showed them round it and they seemed impressed which was nice!
I told them to get on the zone as they were in an E30.
Martin.

Yep!
They did look a little surprised!
They also commented on the wheels - I'd only had them on about an hour by then!

But if your saw my car - it is a loooong way off being mint!
The photos do flatter it somewhat! And I had just washed it!
Bodywork and paint will be dealt with soon though.
I bought the wheels on saturday from another zoner for £300 with good tyres, a bit of a bargain I think but I've not seen these for sale before so don't know the going rate really.
I'm sorry I can't answer the M30 vs M50 question as I've never even passengered in an M50 powered E30, I doubt there is a huge difference. I would imagine the M30 is better at pulling from low revs ?
I think it's around 20bhp more as standard too.
The M50 engine might weigh slightly less though.
Cheers,
Martin.

I've had another busy E30 day!
I'll let the pics tell most of the story but basically me and my mate Glenn who is also my next door neighbour - and who is quite a handy bodywork repairer - got the rear wheel arch repair finished off and took out all the little rusty patches. Most of it was minor surface rust that looked worse than it was. Hopefully I'll finish preparing it this week and Glenn to paint it next weekend maybe!
I do get some strange looks driving around looking like this though!

well that's a bit more weight saving achieved then!!!
i've been playing with smaller toys this weekend
http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... 750#653750
does rather make a E30 feel like a boat to drive
48bhp (optomistic, nearer 35 in all probability!) won't hold my M30 off for long though
but soooooo much fun to throw around!

No weight saving - all the bits are in the boot!
I'd love to have a blast in a Mini again, I've had a few and they are fantastic fun!

So do I !
It's amazing how wheels can transform a car.
Before it looked like a £500 wreck.
Now it looks like a £600 wreck!

The last two weeks have been a bit hectic for me, not been on the zone much.
I'll let the pics do most of the work so here goes -
Door shuts de-rusted and painted.

Loads of rust removed, dents & chips filled, paint rubbed down, fingers bleeding and in my mates converted cow shed workshop out in the sticks.

Bumpers colour coded as I think they should have been anyway ?

Ready for base coat

In the mean time, my mate Glenn found a kiddies trike in the metal skip on the farm where his workshop is.
Then a couple of weeks later someone threw out a mower with a 3.4 hp 2-stroke engine.
A bit of chassis modification and -

It's a beast - called Drift Hog !
Back to work and -

I now totally appreciate how hard work it is painting an old car!
I did nearly all of the preperation and it was hard work!
I'm well chuffed with the result.
My mate isn't a pro painter, and doesn't have ideal facilities so I think he's done a great job.
It isn't perfect but I knew it wouldn't be. But it is a vast improvement and has had many favourable comments from friends and neighbours and passers by, which was nice!
I've ordered new badges, number plates and bumper inserts to do it justice (they were all quite tatty).
Was the perfect weekend weather for working on the car too!
Martin.

You can pick out faults in the paint when you look very closely but I'm not criticizing my mate at all, he did very, very well all things considered.
The wheels are 7x15" made by BBS. I'm not sure what they are called, I bought them from another Zoner.
Cheers,

ahhh right. Looks gr8 though m8. even parked up looks lyk its up to no good.
But thats another reason i luv the E30. The Mtech seats in my Dads cab are raked back at the base. So everytime me m8s get in it steals all the money from their pockets.
