yes M8, went out left, ran straight into a slow moving tractor, so I did the U and shot back the way I came in.

your face was like , WTF !

get that one way valve into the FPR and feed it boostage only and you could get 7 psi outa those 30#'s

Glad it all went ok for you mate, progressive boost build up is good, especially on wet corners ! :)
Sods law my feckin laptop battery's playing ball again now Ant :x
This might be cheaper than a new battery ?

Just a thought, but would not installing a one way valve pointing at the FPR just pump the FPR up leaving the trapped air with nowhere to escape to and the fuel pressure constantly at the reg's rating plus boost pressure? :(

Guess you could introduce a small leak into the signal line between the valve and FPR to let air out, but I reckon it'd likely send your fuelling all over the place given a transient pressure condition.

Ant/Toby, Would something like the RRFPR be of any use? as I have one sat in the box in my shed still.

Other than that I can feel some more mean greenies coming on!

42#'s are the way forward (what i should have bought to begin with!)

went out for a decent blast last night and all seems well, need to wire up the tacho up though, that's annoying me a lot now!

still not managed to blow those mani gaskets again since i had it apart and smeared assembly paste on em... if they go again i'll get the mani skimmed.

the whole exhaust side of the turbo was dull orange when i got back last night :?

having great fun anyway. reckon i can manage for a month or two seeing how it all holds together on 5PSI, then if i can afford it put some greens in along with the 8 PSI spring

Update...

done a few hundred miles of hard driving now. no issues whatsoever, exhaust mani still sealing, oil return still dripping slightly, starts first time every time and runs beautifully since Ant fettled the map.

result? it's bloody amazing :D

don't get a proper idea of the power until in higher gears - i thought i'd got used to the power in second and third gear, but having given it a good run in 4th i'm still dead happy with 5psi. the gearing feels spot on with the 3.08 diff, pulls fourth really really hard from 80-90mph, not gone all the way yet but up to 130ish it's wonderful, feels really strong, definately feels like 300bhp anyway.

almost better is that in 5th at about 80mph, give it light throttle and after a moment the turbo starts to spool and it pushes you gently in the back - and that's a theoretical 170mph gear 8)

cooling seems ok too now i've got the fan wired in right! never been above half way on the gauge since then, anyway.

chuffed to bits with it all in all, my 1 and only gripe is that i've lost the lovely induction howl thanks to the IC/piping/turbo :(

to be honest mate, no :D

had a decent run today down to the retro cars show at santa pod, considered taking it on the strip, watched a few cars break driveshafts and decided best leave it for today

on the road in fourth gear it's bloody brilliant :D

I think the power delivery with ther turbo makes it feel quick in the way a supercharger might not? :?

i suppose the SC would give that power and torque level instantly and at any revs so would lose the turbo 'surge'! even my 406 turbo diesel feels faster than its 90bhp would suggest when it comes on boost :D

the flipside is that i've never been a fan of turbo lag. it's amusing and gives an impressive feeling but having been in a 200 bhp golf G60 i love the wail the SC gives and the instant grunt.

it's a tough call... the SC is going to be harder to mount and drive but the exhaust i have (M3 SS) can remain as-is.

fair enough!

there was a square old granada 2.8i doing runs today, fully road legal and standard from outside, with a supercharged LS1 V8. sounded great and was doing 10.8 sec quarters

Well it's still working :D

not for long though, have managed to put a tiny crack in the front corner of the sump somehow so it's dripping oil a bit. Andy335touring kindly dropped me off a spare sump last night, so it'll all have to come apart now to fit that. and while at it, install the adjustable fuel pressure reg Ant kindly supplied, put a different spring in the wastegate and sample a few more psi

it hasn't hit the ground, no scraping underneath. just knocked the bottom corner of one of the front fins off slightly, i think i'm unlucky it's actually leaking (it's barely dripping, maybe 1 or two cups worth a day just sitting there)

i wouldn't wory mate. my front springs are too soft, that's the problem i think. a guard probably wouldn't do any harm though :D
how's yours going?

that sounds like the amount of oil loss that condemmed my 2.5! easily fixable but a good excuse to do the swap!

i suspect my springs are from a 4 cylinder kit as it's sagged so much with the M30 in there, it was low and very soft with the M20, now it's ridiculous!

mine is actally still off the road. i need to swap the damaged panels over (various damage!), get my one new 16" alpina rep refurbished to match the rest, sort that missfire, sort the springs out, fit my offset M3 bushes and offset trailing arm bushes (maybe some poly subframe ones while i'm at it), get a MOT and all by september 23rd!!!! i may leave the suspension alone for now and get the bodywork all tidied for the show and then get stuck into mechanical bits again afterwards

i do start it up every now and then though and every time i nearly wet myself! :D

BTW what you need to cure the low sump problem is to have a bat winged sump and modified oil pick up pipe like Ian's H35, not going to be cheap though
