TBH id want it in and running first then if i was to do things like what you've done pay someone to do it after
So back to this EWS headache, how does it connect to the engine loom/ECU on an S50?
Moderator: martauto

You only need to run a single wire from the EWS system to the ECU, and this is done through the X20/C101 connector (main engine to body plug).tomson wrote:So back to this EWS headache, how does it connect to the engine loom/ECU on an S52?

you make it sound so easy ianian332isport wrote:You only need to run a single wire from the EWS system to the ECU, and this is done through the X20/C101 connector (main engine to body plug).tomson wrote:So back to this EWS headache, how does it connect to the engine loom/ECU on an S52?
As for the rest of the EWS system, you only need to hook up about 4 or 5 wires to get it running, and most of these are simply power and ground. As long as you get the connector for the EWS components from an EWS equipped E36, it's simple to make a small wiring harness to plug it all in. You certainly don't need the entire under dash loom from the E36 or anything silly.
Ian.

Certainly in theory. In practice, it doesn't seem that easy unless you have a suitable donor vehicle to put the components into to do the alignment.Demlotcrew wrote:and now you can re-program keys and EWS components from different cars.

Can anybody point me in the direction of a COMPLETE set in a breakers or if they have some for sale that would be cool![]()
Cheers

The key is hard coded to the EWS module. This cannot be changed. You can align a different ECU to an EWS module though. The key itself is not matched to the ECU.DanThe wrote:So the key is not matched to the ECU?
How would i go about aligning my ECU to an EWS set up from a different car Ian?ian332isport wrote:The key is hard coded to the EWS module. This cannot be changed. That's the tricky bittomson wrote:How would i go about aligning my ECU to an EWS set up from a different car Ian?
Right thanks, ill bear that in mind.ian332isport wrote:That's the tricky bittomson wrote:How would i go about aligning my ECU to an EWS set up from a different car Ian?![]()
Ideally you would find a friendly E36 owner (with a similar year/model) and fit them in his car to be aligned by either the dealer, or someone with something like the Carsoft software/hardware to do it.
In theory, you should also be able to wire it all into the E30 and get it aligned by one of the same two methods above. In practice (I've tried), it doesn't appear to be that simple. I had a go at this on Ste's M52 conversion, but was unable to get the coding routine to complete. I'm led to believe that you also need to have the E36 instrument cluster wired in as well, but I cannot yet confirm this. I did try hooking up an M3 Evo cluster, but this did not help. It's possible that the 328i ECU and the M3 cluster were not compatible, but without a 328i (M52) cluster to try, I don't know for sure.
Given a non matching S50B32 (M3 Evo) ECU and EWS module (with matching key), I would be happy to try it on my car (I do have the matching M3 cluster).
Ian.

The only other coded bit you require is the key. Apart from that, you will need the small transmit/receive module, and the loop antenna that goes around the ignition barrel.Gabi_323i wrote:i have a 323i engine WBACB71000AP54084 and i have only the ecu and ews module, what do i need besides the key?
