m50 into a 318is

well i started my m50 swap last night . i took the m42 out last night and fitted the m50 today . it is running but i need to finish the exhaust and get hold of a 6cly prop and gearlinkage , as i thought i could use the m42 items
its all running i shortened the gear linkage and had the prop shortened today 
. only problem i now have is the rev counter is over reading is this just a matter of changing the rev counter or would i be right in thinking the coding plug for the dash .
