Thanks dude.

But I don't think I'll be keeping them.
They have the wrong offset so need big spacers and they are a nightmare to put on. And I'm sure they will rub on the front wheel arch liners now I have the eccentric Polyflex wishbone bushes on.

I do like black wheels (those are actually body colour - diamond black) so I might get my BBS wheels painted - rim included, just to be slightly different from the usual polished rims and coloured centres!

My 15" x-spokes rub a tad on full lock on the liners with M3 eccentric bushes

I don't think I've had mine on full lock since I ftted them yesterday, I'll have to check. If so my 17" wheels don't stand a chance!

Oh well, I've grown to like my x-spokes anyway! And they weigh less! :D

Great read and really informative. Its thanks to the likes of people like you that im hopefully going to find it a bit
easier to do this conversion on my cab.Got that many questions going through my head its unreal.Realy need to write them down. How do you find the extra weight of the 3.5 lump, handling wise?.Only im thinking of leaving the p.a.s off.To me its really not an issue in the 325i but not sure what it will be like after conversion. At the moment i have the 535isport engine which im hoping to mate up with a 730 (E28) gearbox and diff which could be a 3.64 lsd
wont know till sunday when i pick it up.Will this be ok with a 535i flywheel,or is there a better option. Also got a M3 prop to pick up today, so no mucking about having it shortene.d and balanced.Bit unsure re the radiator, hAve seen Spadge,s build with the E34 rad and it looks like the whole thing just grew there its that tidy but his is in a tourer and like e i say mines an 86 cab.He has also used the original servo too which i was led to believe you couldnt do.Well not going to rush this, besides its no fun trying to clean and having a go at a top end rebuild in your front garden in December.Thats one thing you Aussie blokes have over us poor Brits( as well as the cricket, rugby and even football on our last meeting)/No worries though, parts are cheaper here

Glad to be of assistance!

I haven't found the extra weight in mine being noticable to poor handling but I haven't been on a track with it yet.
Some people on here who know what they are talking about say they do understeer quite a lot. I can well believe it.

I haven't tried one with no pas but it has been done and said not to be that bad apart from when parking.

That gearbox should be fine.
The flywheel will work but a better option if you find one is the E28 M535i one as it's a fair bit lighter. But you'll also need the M535i clutch with this.

I also used the E34 535i radiator and engine position 3 (furthest back), it's a tight fit and most people use the slimmer E28 535i one.

You can use the original servo but it is tight to the inlet manifold and heater pipes. I used a mk1 Golf GTI servo to give more clearance.
Another way is to move the original servo.

Hope that helps,

Good luck!

Martin.

not having PAS on a 335 feels perfect on the move, parking is heavy but manageable - no worse than on my old 1.3 Golf :D

that's interesting to know as i'm still unsure exactly how to go about sorting a quickrack...

i have a E36 rack but due to the clearance problems, i've not yet fitted it. i am getting tempted to get a non pas rack and fit a quickrack conversion to it for good measure.

that said, i have got lazy and spoilt having pas for a while!

Well, I've been a bit busy recently so haven't had much BMW time.

Got a couple of things done this weekend though.

318is front lip recieved and fitted -

Image

And I 'blacked' a set of headlamps which I'll fit later - ran out of time today and want the sealer to harden properly too. -

Still a few things lined up to do but not enough time! :(

Thanks Andy!

They look so different from different angles though, hard to see them in just one photo really. I'm quite pleased with them (and I didn't even break any lenses! :D ) as I've gone for the all black and sinister look!

I haven't heard from Ed Hall again yet but I am still planning the bodywork tidy up and paint. Even if PPC don't use my car, I will have done work that I was going to do anyway. I'm after a new sunroof panel if you know of one ? (I'll post in the wanted section too).

Nice lamps, DRIFTBOY! Do you have to leave the sidelight reflector section clear for the MOT?

Cheers,

Cheers,
Thanks!

It didn't take as long as I thought it would either, but then I do sometimes get impatient and rush things. So they might fall to bits next week! :chuckle:

I left the sidelight reflectors silver as I did fear MOT trouble, but the 'eye brow' spoilers cover half of those so I don't think it will show much. Some people do paint those bits as well, don't know how they get on at MOT time though.

Martin.

Cool. What glue did you use, also did you weld the X-thingys together or just glue them?

I cut the cross bits out of thin(ish) aluminium (as time consuming as getting the lenses off) and stuck them in with Unibond super all purpose (black) silicone sealant - £7.14 from B&Q from a caulking gun - £2.98 from B&Q! I also used this to stick the lenses back on.
I painted the bits with Hycote VHT heat resistant paint from an aerosol can.

I hope the sealant I used is ok with the heat! 8O

I think I'll paint the metal headlamp rings black and fit those too, just in case a lens comes unstuck, the ring might stop it falling right out!

No problem.
If you haven't got a heat gun (which I didn't) you can pick up one for under £20 which will do the job. My 1.6 kw one was good enough.

It is a time consuming job but once the lenses are off the worries are over.
Just be careful not to break them trying to get the lenses off before the glue is properly heated, it does take time.

Good luck,

Martin.

silicone sealant should hold together to well in excess of 200°C so you should be fine :D

I believe they are Gareth.

I've also seen cars with burnt out headlamp wiring as a result of the extra current drawn. 8O

Not sure and not really that bothered!
These were originally in my iS and were in there for 12 months so dont think the police are interested.
Only Halfords ones anyway so probably not a true 100w

Not experienced any burnt wiring although i have also read of it happening, again no problems in 18 months or so!

regarding the bulbs, i've had a good google search and it looks a little unclear and may well be undefined legally... not hard and fast rules that i can find anyway

i may have a go with some though as these can't be as dazzling as most new cars with xenons pointed up in the air!!!

I've been braving the cold - just fitted the rear pair of my H&R 60/40mm spring kit (to replace my 60/60mm G-Max set) and also fitted my 'blacked' headlamps.

A little shakey, but here's a moody night time shot!
