No idea mate, I know it's some dry sumped bad bod. It's probably a £15k engineJhonno wrote:A LET shirley?! Or a LET spec XE..
IF and its a massive IF, a 2.0lt 8v vauxhall bottom end, with a cossy twin cam head bolted on, can make 800 bhp. Its got to be way out of your budget mate?
The cost in getting 450-500 bhp out of a cossy lump, and making it last more than 3 minutes is Massive.
To get 800 bhp out of the Vauxhall wrongness has got to cost millions?!

I'm not buying the engine, it's just getting loaned.
I'll try and find out some more about the spec etc tomorrow as he's coming over to do battle on the non-starting Golf.
I know he gets over 500bhp out of his N/A ford stuff and they cost about 10k a pop

OK it's turbo, it is an XE not a LET, but the block is alloy and comes from some Pontiac, it doesn't run a headgasket, it is ringed. Dry sumped and 800bhp, rebuilds are a regular thing it seems. You don't want to know the price. The gearbox is £35k alone.
Personally I think he's a little mad, but he's well up for chucking it in there. The shell is getting collected next week and then the plasma cutter comes out.

Interesting, Thats sounds like a crazy lot of money.
800bhp must be easier to come by no??
Its a no brainer if the crazy coont wants to give you the use of it though!!!

Oh he's crazy alright.
Currently he's building a 4wd fransit with a Focus ST 5 pot turbo, just because he fancied it. It'll probably take him a couple of weeks and this includes doing a roof chop and other bits.
He's aiming to have the E30 weighing 700kgs
I'm going to have to be on the ball with this one

I'm just chatting to him on Facebook at the mo, this is copied & pasted
"this engine is pushing out just over 800hp and as a 0-60 of 1.9 seconds thats faster than a f1 car ,we are trying to figure out what it will do with only 2wd, it reves to 12 and a bit before blowing i have been given the anti lag bits for it just trying to beg the bullet start selonoids etc for a 1/4 mile blast i need to use a 389 diff so i can fit 17" slicks "

The spec it is being built to is as follows
2.5 millington engine on gas, a six speed hewland sequentual box with launch, custom made back axle using quaife bits, full space frame ultra low center of gravity ,front end A-frame top arms, tcr bottom with compresion struts coil over shocks mounted in board, 4 link back end (birdcaged) with lower arm and top mounted spring baged back end so ride hight can move the faster yobu go t45 frame if not just seamlees, outer skin ( silouette) alloy, composite, and odd bit of steel weight 740kg, a mate is going to run the frame on cad and his freind is going to do the fluid dinamics for the under tray and shell.

Well the Golf finally starts & drives, just some tidying up to do and that's sorted.
Bring on the drag car!
The 1/4 mile calculator says this could possibly do an 8

Should do mate, got the loan of Elvington airfield for a few sneaky shakedown runs once it's built so I don't look a complete c0ck first time out at the strip

Was hoping it was going to start this weekend, but Andy has been over helping me finish the golf and then we got called into the office as there has been a massive flood, luckily it didn't take out the servers but half the office space has gone.
Wrapped & fitted your manifolds to the chromie today, nice fit. Just got to fit the downpipes & mate to the M3 system, pipes are just the right length, may even need to trim them so good work on the length estimating.
I was given a top tip on the wrapping. Soak it before wrapping, then when it gets started for the first time it shrinks a bit and ends up really nice & tight.

We're not going to have any of that wheelie nonsense, this is just going to dig in & go due to the rear axle design & the torque bars connected from the rear axle to the centre point of the spaceframe, so as the axle tries to twist, it pushes the bars which then force the axle into the floor.leeparkes wrote:This is a 8-9 second E30.![]()

There has been some plasma action today apparently, I'm going to hopefully pop over tomorrow and get some pics. He's said he hasn't seen such a clean shell in a long time, bit of a shame really

Yeah I'm going to start a new thread. Hope to get over to his place tomorrow and get some pics. I'm a bit gutted I didn't get chance to get some pics before it got hit up with the plasma.
