just had a read whats going on dude.... and just to let u know ive just fitted a new servo on my car which is smaller than the e30 one and is an unknown vw one. tthe brakes do require harder pushing which i dont think is very good.... i also saw a polo one there which was even smaller and had three bolts to jooin the bulkhead... i left this though as it looks like the bit that goes inside the car and joins the brake bar did not look like it could be removed from the shaft that goes in the servo....
i wouldnt go too small if i were u,,,, with my experience from my silvia setup and this car..... fit a big a servo as u possibly can!!!

Gutted to hear this Jhonno, and I know exactly what it feels like.
Its a right kick in the bollox when the project is almost finished.

Quite a few of us now that have been sold shonky motors.
Well worth buyng a whole running car and selling the bits you don't need. Not only do you get to see/hear the engine running, you can also sell all the other bits and you'll probably end up with a free engine and maybe even a few extra quid in your pocket.

found one.. so we'll see. i think with a new lump it would be driving in less than 2days..
How much do you guys think i could get for the 'broken' lump? ~90k, cams good, oil changed often looking at lack of staining, few ancillaries to go with it etc..

I got decent money for the throttle bodies and cylinder head but it was complete.
Head went to Lithuania, Throttle bodies went to Malaysia and the Inlet Plenum went to Florida!

well head is nearly off.. Will hopefully have the camshaft removal tool tonight and it'll be off.. Having spoken to a few people tho i think the engine was fooked when i bought it.. Bit of a shitter. But hey.. If bottom end looks ok, might just swap the head, its not been 'that' bad to get pulled to bits this far..
Only thing is.. it seems too easy to jump teeth rotating it the wrong way. I know they are known for it, but would have thought they'd give bit moe resistance than it does..
anyone got a diagram of the chain setup so i can see what might be the issue..?

right kids, head is off aaaaaaaand.... all the inlet valves are v. banana shaped.. Ouch..
Some impact marks on the pistons but they should be cool
Good news it bottom end is mint, no wear on the bores, and still got the nice factory honing marks. So should be new head and away we go..
laptop doesnt want to talk to my phone atm.. so i'll put pics up later..

Sorry to hear the top end is trashed, but glad to hear you finally know why it doesn't run.
Regarding the pistons, you need to make sure that any marks that are there don't have any sharp edges, or it will cause the engine to pink/detonate. These engines run with a very high CR, so it won't take much to set it off. I appreciate the knock sensors will pick it up and back the timing off, but you will loose power.
Cheers,
Ian.

inlet valves are £40+vat each.. thats assuming exhaust valves are ok they are £75+vat each.. plus getting them cut in etc. Plus 3.2 head has bigger ports and inlet valves, also 1mm thinner inlet valve 'waist' be rude not too imo
is it worth getting this new head faced or anything?

Pressure test/reface before fitting is a must mate, also have the oil seals changed if they have gone hard

So you're fitting a 3.2 head to a 3.0? Does it fit on OK? What about the VANOS? Will you be able to fit the 3.0 single VANOS or will the 3.0 ECU you have run the 3.2 dual VANOS OK?
Fine wet and dry will be fine to use on the piston crowns. The smoother you make them, the better.
Also: do the 3.0 throttle bodies mate OK to the head or are you going to re-shape them slightly to match the ports?
All good on the progress, hope you didn't get stung on the head too much, bummer about the head damage you had.
Are you in Colchester at the moment? I'm down in Coggeshall fiddling with my project at the moment.. Would be good to pop over and see how its going dude.

Was gonna give you a bell as i dropped the head up today ste.. Only thing is i managed to leave my phone at my house
Well the 3.2 head arrived today.. I kinda just glanced at it, took it up there, and then had a closer look at it with the guy whilst discussing work to be done aaaand No. 6 has bent inlets!! FFCS!!!
This is starting to be not funny anymore.. Its gonna have valves lapped back in, clean, pressure test, skim (apparently its pretty straight, one good point i guess..), new oil seals.. Providing the rest of the head is ok..
On a side note my mates Touring is pretty fun.. Its a shed, needs a fair bit of work (mainly bushes tbh) but it does go well.. Supposedly a 2.7 conversion, and runs a truely council Scorpian system (but i like it
) One of them new celica thingies was shown the way..
