How did you get your ecu connector through the bulkhead hole?

I'm not sure about the S50B30 connector (Motronic), but I seem to remember my S50B32 (Siemens) connector fitted without problems.Jhonno wrote:How did you get your ecu connector through the bulkhead hole?
You can remove the cover from the connector which makes it a fair bit smaller. Again, not sure about the B30, but my B32 connector strips right down so you only have the wires and the plastic bit that holds the connector pins. All the outer plastic cover is removable.

I guess you are talking about the hole for the E30 ECU in the drivers side? In that case it does fit but is rather tight. I seem to recall that it went through without stripping shards of plastic off!Jhonno wrote:How did you get your ecu connector through the bulkhead hole?
I certainly didn't strip the ECU plug. Have you tried it yet then?

Size wise, the S50B30 and S50B32 ECU connectors are very similar, moreso in their depth, which is the issue.ian332isport wrote:I'm not sure about the S50B30 connector (Motronic), but I seem to remember my S50B32 (Siemens) connector fitted without problems.Jhonno wrote:How did you get your ecu connector through the bulkhead hole?

Just to make sure, I fitted mine without the rubber grommet and split and added this later. Are you trying to put it through the E30 bulkhead grommet?

S50 ECU plug will go through the bulkhead hole, bit tight but at the right angle it goes through easy. Exactly the same size as an M50 or M52 plug.
To add the grommet simply take the cover of the connector plug and slide it over the loom with some fairy liquid

The welding (just a spot of weld) of the oil pump sprocket nut is just to ensure that the nut can't work loose and fall off. I believe a few guys in the states have seen this not come off and cause problems.
For what it's worth, mine is not welded.

There's a lot more to it than just remaking the C101 plug unfortunately. Is what you really need is a custom wiring chart made up to suit your application. You will need to know the pin designations/colours of all the wires in the car side of the plug (E30 plug is called the C101) and all of the corresponding colours in the E36 X20 & X69 (assuming this is an EVO engine)
It is beyond me to make up a wiring chart for you although Ian Haynes (ian332isport) may be able to help you if you ask him very nicely and supply him with all the information. I will add that this will take him some time so ask really nicely.
May I suggest starting a thread in the engine swaps section, maybe post some pics and a description of where you are at. You are likely to get a lot more help that way too. Good luck getting it running.
Dameon.

Wow, it's been a long time since I updated this! Since the floods in July we have been busy with trying to get life back together so the E30 has had to take a back seat for a bit.
However, the car has now done 1400 miles on it's new drivetrain with zero trouble (hoorah). My fears regarding the quality of the engine that I bought without hearing running were thankfully unfounded. Since a trip to the 'pod, a dyno session and a magazine shoot (circuit thrashing), it's had a little stick now
Many thanks to ShepsEvo3 who dyno'd the car for me back in mid november. It produced a very respectable 283.5 Bhp. Here's a little picture of the dirty old thing on the dyno:

Shortly after this, I did the long awaited upgrade, fitting the H&R cup kit:
The MOT was now about due so it was time for new control arms, top mounts front and rear, all new bushes.

Something I overlooked were the rear 'over axle' brake pipes. They didn't make it through the MOT, I know, I should have known better. So I had to do a mad dash repair job to get them done in time for the magazine pictures being done on the 12th of December.

Yummy, why did I just think they would be ok?

So, after a mad dash back to the MOT centre, she was all legal again
As I mentioned, Ste and Ian Haynes were organising a mag shoot with Neil Mukerji & BMW car magazine. I was very chuffed to be asked along. We had a smashing day at Curborough sprint circuit thrashing the arse off our E30's and getting lots of nice pictures taken. The feature is due to come out in March
Here's a taster, and one of my favourites

This one is finished now, everything works as it should, it starts, drives and performs without any issues. The question of what I am doing next has been answered by the arrival of my iX touring. Watch this space for developments with that...

Ace, pleased you got it all working again after the floods.
Do we get a taster of whats to come in the IX touring?
Don't suppose you need that 3.64 diff i bought off you back do you? i need to swop it to a 3.91 as it is a little bit to long now

LOL! no I don't need any LSD's! Sory it's a bit too long, that's just typical! I haven't made my mind up with the iX yet, the M5*/S5* options are pretty much out of the question because of the 4WD system. Maybe a 2.7 with a small turbo would be the answer. Being LHD should help with the turbo and I have access to all the ingriedients for a 2.7.... hang on, I'm talking myself into it nowappletree wrote:Ace, pleased you got it all working again after the floods.

Failing that I'll just keep it standard and give it a major birthday. I have some of the bits required so it's just a question of time before I get started...

BMW did make an E34 525ix (M50 based). Perhaps you could use the sump from one of thoseold_skool_2002 wrote:the M5*/S5* options are pretty much out of the question because of the 4WD system.

Nice to see you back on here mate, your cars looking sweet as ever.
I had the pleasure of the rear brake lines in December too, not a nice job at the best of times let alone in winter with no garage to work in !

Excellent news Dameon (and Ste, Ian etc.). I'm really looking forward to the article after being teased by your sig pic for the last 2 months
Be sure to update the thread for the Blue Devil as well.
Three things:
1. If you're doin a 4WD E30, it would almost be rude for it not to be FI (whetehr M20, S5* or S38 powered). Not necessarily PPF styles but at least enough to make all the import crowd feel ill
Ant already has the resource - it would be a match made in heaven. A true E30 Zone Flagship Project (all due respect to all the other Dr Spanners here)
2. Please, please, sell me one of your tourers. No disrespect intended - I don't have the time, energy or the patience to do a good job on modding an E30
3. Failing point 2 above, when will you be taking orders for customer cars

a1 job and top write up, it looks factory
My S50 project is under way so this makes good reading
Does anyone know where i can get a 25mm audi mc, i'm a little stuck for one as not many breakers over here would have the cars these are found in due to road tax on bigger engines

Daemon, help needed
I, like yourself and the other guys have done, want to keep the ecu on the righthand side, i'm trying to this wiring before the engine goes in.
I've just opened the loom to a mass of wires if you have any tips or tricks on where to start or what should be routed where it would be a big help, please
